Why do they insist on doing stuff like this? "On Earth" = hype overload. In any case, I say ILM bombards the RS database with so many votes that it has a meltdown. Because that would be funny. Oh yes it would.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea where I came up with the "On Earth" bit. Ignore me.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

surely, they're not looking for the best live band on Mars?

would you believe I almost said Neptune

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I know sometimes I get overly worked up about a certain one-of-the-best-live-bands-on-the-planet getting overlooked by things, but COME THE FUCK ON ROLLING STONE!?! Eminem - shows never more than 40 minutes long, using a teleprompter AND a fucking backing vocal track so you can give your SWEET PRECIOUS LITTLE WUSSY-FUCKER VOICE A REST...and...yet...NOWHERE...on...that...list...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Right'em in dude!

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Those old dudes who did Motown and Stax covers in The Charles Bradlaugh in Northampton on a Sunday evening in September 1999. Best gig EVAH.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I didn't just write them in, I ran around the office using other people's computers to write them in again and again. Oh my god I'm such a total Fishbone retard!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm voting for Kraftwerk.

hstencil, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm voting for Cat Power.

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Wolf Eyes

ss, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

My voting for Kraftwerk isn't a joke. They're seriously one of the most entertaining live bands I've ever seen, even if they just stand there.

hstencil, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Sun Ra Arkestra

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

A "best live band" list that includes Jimmy Eat Cock and does NOT include DEfuckinVO is not even worth the many second glances I've given it. I'm disappointed in myself.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The bands have to have toured in the past two years. Did that stop me from writing in Tina Turner? Hella no way.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Man or Astro-man?

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we should all vote for Tori, James Taylor or the Dave Matthews Band.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Mission of Burma

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

A Ma$e write-in from me.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Man or Astro-man does give out free snackcakes. THat's good enough for me.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm voting for Live.

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to write in Mick Jagger, what with his 5-star solo album and everything.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Although now I regret not writing in Ryan Adams. Ho ho ho.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I wrote Anal Cunt LOLOLOLOL

ss, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

free snackcakes? That reminds me, I should write in the Go-Nuts!

pauls00, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

No AC/DC or Motorhead? Bastards!

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Boredoms?

Andrew L (Andrew L), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Fischerspooner. All the way.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Lightning Bolt, you fools--LIGHTNING BOLT.

ian Johnson, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It would be good if you could vote for eras. I can think of a lot of bands who used to just fucking kick ass in an unbelievable way back in the 80s and 90s who are rather boring now...

Scaredy Cat, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

NOMEANSNO....fuck Rolling Stone.

chad (chad), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Best live bands I've seen this year:

1. Cheikh Lo's band
2. Rachid Taha's band
3. Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali
(4. Um, Bob Dylan.)

I take it "On Earth" means they will adopt a similarly multinational focus (as should you).

b.R.A.d. (Brad), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

FOO FIGHTERS!

Ok, maybe they're not the best but they are good live. "All My Life" actually sounds better live.

Aja (aja), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Beat Farmers, god rest Country Dick's soul. Nothing like seeing him cut his hand on a Heineken bottle, ride some people in the audience, fall down, then start beating people with a riding stick. Now that's a show.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Country Dick, legend and hero. Cuz he was a happy boy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

two words JESUS LIZARD but I did vote for Iggy Pop.

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

RUINS / NOMEANSNO / or THE BRAIN OF MORBIUS. yes actually the BRAIN win that one hands down

bob snoom, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Begone foul Bold tag.
I put in 30 votes for Hank Williams Jr.
Why? Because he's actually the WORST live performer I've ever seen. I want to mess up their database.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I say the BEGONE!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the best live band?

damn, to think about a complete band is somehow 'bit too much for me right now,
but i dare cast my vote for the drummer, though -- Han Bennink, nigh any band with him should be great live

Roman (Roman), Monday, 19 May 2003 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

That Gary Numan album is one of the best albums anywhere ever. Period.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 May 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

but you only gave it four stars in your AMG review???

Evan (Evan), Monday, 19 May 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Star correlations don't always match the reviews but this is improving.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 May 2003 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, never pay attention to the number of stars--always read the text of an AMG review.

I've been rather dismayed when even the reviews that I wrote were getting extremely wrong star #'s...

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 19 May 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)
