Those Instrumental/DJ Tracks on Old Rap Albums

Remember when all the rap albums had one or two instrumental tracks? Those were the best. Public Enemy had them.

My favorites were on the Eric B. and Rakim albums. Chinese Arithmetic, and the others. Though those guys in general haven't aged well, those songs are still good. Usually better than the singles and "classics." Especially the one with the Eagles sample that horrified Robert Christagu. He couldn't believe that rap would betray him that way. I love that song.

Okay, it's called "Eric B. Never Scared." And it's very good. "It's Just a Beat" is also good.

Yes they did. Things get worse and worse. Slouching towards gamorrah and all.

'dj premiers in deep concentration'
from 'no more mr. nice guy' by gang starr was my favourite,
although the rest of the lp was pretty bad...oh and
that sleeve! can somebody post it here, i want to
see if its as bad as i remember....

Manifest from No More Mr Nice guy was good too! That album wasn't bad at all. Sounds so much more...joyous than the later stuff. The one that came out in the late 90s was about as fun as church.

What about the instrumental/DJ tracks on the B-sides of even older rap 12-INCH SINGLES? Those could be pretty great too, you know!

The instrumental of Big Apple Rapping is great. But maybe the real song sucks, I don't know. Spyder D has been known to.
