I'm listening to the new album (Rose) now and I'm teetering on the fence... it is either very lovely indeed or the most horribly sugared thing I've heard in years.

Although the Erasure pastiche about six songs in is swaying me towards 'horribly sugared', it must be said.

Quite liked the last album. For about a week. Your words do not particularly make me feel like putting cash down for this one.

More Erasure, though=a good thing.

Yes, Erasure good (Dan Perry's complaints about them bad!).

one year passes...
REVIVE!

Why? Because I've just had a moment of clarity, and realised that Keane seem to have nicked their schtick almost wholesale from our Maxi.

It's interesting, in a pop culture where so much stock is put into looks, that a band like Keane whose singer - for all his vocal oomph - looks like a pudgy choirboy munching on a curly-wurly, can sell gajillions, while the musically similar Hecker - who's a male model and undeniably swoonsome, languishes in relative obscurity.

looks dont equal talent

Rizz (Rizz), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Nono that's not my point - my point is, talent *plus* looks *might* be expected to be more successful than talent alone, in this particular case. Maybe. I'm just musing aloud really, and making a vague case that I think Maxi deserves more props, especially for the Infinite Love Songs album.

Carry on...

I think you can download his new single from his website for free. Reminded me of Sigur Rós.

Lady Sleep finally leaked to slsk yesterday (maybe earlier? dunno. the searching has been for shit). A little more melodramatic than either of the previous albums, but melodramatic is something Max does well.

two years pass...
i bought rose for £2 thinking it was by the techno artist of a similar surname. at first i thought "what is this shit?" but something about it stuck and it's actually very good.
