Just burn him Masters of Reality and Sabotage. If he wants more, Paranoid and Volume Four.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd start with the Paranoid album. I might stop with that too, but that's because it's all I have by them. It's a great album.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i want to make a cd with the best songs spanning all the classic ozzy albums.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd just reproduce the track listing from We Sold Our Soul For Rock & Roll, which fits nicely on one disc.

Although at the end there I'd probably drop "Snowblind" for "Supernaut", and "N.I.B." for "Into the Void".

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

yah see theres stuff missing from sold our souls that i dont know the name of...

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if you were going to keep it thorough, I'd say:

"Paranoid", "Supernaut", "Planet Caravan", "N.I.B", "Sweet Leaf", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Iron Man", "War Pigs", "Never Say Die", "Into the Void", "Children of the Grave", "Symptom of the Universe", "Hole in the Sky", "Neon Knights" and "MOB RULES"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex is totally OTM. I want that CD-R (I only got Paranoid, Master and Sabotage, and I want those stray classics without buying the full-lengths).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex is ... OTM

-- yeh
(except for Mob Rules)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

alex gas nothing from Sabotage.. what would be a good pick from that one?

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure he did - "Hole in the Sky" and "Symptom of the Universe", both great choices; I still really like "Am I Going Insane (Radio)" too even though it's fairly atypical. Also note his last two picks are with Dio, but "Neon Knights" fucking RULES.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend tried to convince me that "Supernaut" has the best riff in the history of rock and role. he's no longer a friend.

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

> the best riff in the history of rock and role <

that last word there! O DO I LOVE IT! seriously.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Well name one that's better, smarty-pants.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

b-b-b-ut that's not the point! he fucked my ex-girlfriend!

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

who didnt

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(except for Mob Rules)

Oh come on...."Mob Rules" is the finest selection of the R.J.Dio era.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

is there anything else on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath besides the title track worth putting on there? anthony, if you want this cdr i can hook you up.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath?
depends on how un-metal or metal you like your Sabbath, i suppose.
but i'd suggest "Looking For Today" and "Spiral Architect" anyway.

(and i do remember that Bill Ward's 'disco-beat' gets short shrift from chuck e. in "Accidental Evolution..." -- but what the, er, hell?!)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex in N'' - nuthin doin', i just haven't any admiration left for the Dio-era Sabs
used to once kinda 'like' "Neon Knights" - once=when it came out as a single & i heard it on Radio Luxembourg - but i cannot quite stand even that any more

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Fair enough.....Dio-era Sabbath is far from my favorite, but if I had to listen to one track from that line-up, it would be "Mob Rules" (and tell me that doesn't sound like Chris Cornell when Dio first yawps into the mic with that OOOoooooOOOOoh, COME ON!

Actually, the ominous, spacey instrumental that segues into "Mob Rules", titled "E5150" is pretty cool (probably `cos Dio's not on it).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

huh. ok, Alex, i'll have to go & check whether or not i have that instrumental somewhere...

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

...nope. haven't got it.
(and i obviously thought about 'nother Sabs instrumental, pre-Dio -- from Technical Ecstasy -- anyhoo)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Technical Ecstasy is actually the only Ozzy-era lp I've never heard. I do have Never Say Die, which is usually similarly maligned, and I love it. What's the ILM consensus on the former?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't hate on the Holy Diver!

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I want that picture in a lit frame over my mantlepiece!

I actually kinda dig a few tracks on Never Say Die, notably the title track and the surprisingly poignant (if such a word could ever be applied to the anything in the oeuvre/canon of Das Sabz) "Junior's Eyes." But, y'know, I also have a high tolerance for shit...so fuck do I know?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

what about ian gillian fronted black sabbath?

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

1) Black Sabbath
2) Paranoid
3) Iron Man
4) Planet Caravan
5) Hand of Doom
6) Children of the Grave
rinse, repeat...keep copying that as an endless loop until the disk is almost full, then put Sweet Loaf at the end.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you mean Sweet Leaf or the Buttholes' Sweat Loaf there?

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck. Put 'em both on there...and use a cross-fader so one blends into the other. That'd be as friggin righteous as the pope.
Do it...you know you want to.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Black Sabbath
N.I.B.
Warpigs
Iron Man
Paranoid
Sweet Leaf
Children of the Grave
Into the Void
Tomorrow's Dream
Supernaut
Snowblind
St, Vitus Dance
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Sabbra Cadabra
Killing Yourself To Live
Spiral Architect
Hole in The Sky
Symptom of the Universe
Megalomania
The Writ
These would be my picks. No way you get this on one disc.Since you will probably make a double cd set feel free to include
After Forever
Lord of this World
Electric Funeral
Fairies Wear Boots
Wheels of Confusion
Who are You?
Now that is a great Sabbath collection.Ok i skipped the last 2 Ozzy albums but really who wants to hear Sabbath sing about "Dirty Women".The first six albums were the real deal. All other Sabbath incarnations had their moments but none as consistently amazing as these. And by the way i preferred the Dio incarnation live even if it was really like hearing a brutal version of the first 3 Rainbow albums.I always thought Ozzy was kinda lame live.
As for the Ian Gilliam Sabbath most of it sounds like a sloppy Deep Purple album but i really like 2 songs Zero the Hero & Disturbing the Priest. They could have been on any classic Sabbath collection.Any more questions just fire away.Hope i helped

evan chronister (evan chronister), Thursday, 15 May 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What Black Sabbath song does Ice T do guest vocals on? I've never heard it but I'd like to.

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Friday, 16 May 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

erm... Ice T sampled the song "Black Sabbath" on one of the cuts from his Iceberg/Freedom of Speech record, if that's what you mean...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 16 May 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think so. Ice T is credited as being the only guest vocalist ever to have performed on a Sabbath album. I have no idea which album that might have been.

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Friday, 16 May 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

seek and ye shall find

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks James
