The Last Album That Made You Jump & Shout Upon First Spin?

What the last album that made you exclaim some profanity* in amazement when your first heard it?

Mine would be the new New Pornographers album, which I bought about 2 hours ago. I think "From Blown Speakers" did it.

* "holy shit!", "fuck yeah!" or "hellz yeah!" are all deemed acceptable pronities in this case.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Either *Groovski* by Groovski or *Stage Fright, Stage Fright* by Rapider than Horsepower, at least partly because I had (and still have) no idea who either band is. (Both in the past week, by the way.)

The Last Album That Made You Jump & Shout Upon First Spin?

kentaylrr, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Rapider Than Horsepower:

Members of Racebannon, Rep Seki, and The Watercolour, etc. What happens when creepy guys try to sound cute. The idea is to write short little ditties for all of the kids. We like puppies, kittens, babies, and puffy stickers. Please give us ice cream sandwiches.

HAS CHUCK GONE TWEE?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Dizzy Rascal - "I Love You" (not an album, but still jump and shout worthy)

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just listening to Gotham by Radio 4 for the first time and boy, its pretty hard to do work.

rexJr., Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. good answer, Brian. I had the same reaction.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually *like* some twee stuff, I'll have you know (hey, I have my sensitive side!), but I thought Rapider Than Horsepower sounded as much like *Dub Housing*-era Pere Ubu as any band I can ever remember hearing. Though for all I know, they're just Beefheart and Fairport Convention fans. Or none of the above. Anyway, jump & shout I did.

chuck, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

zilverberg.tk (zilverberg.tk), Sunday, 18 May 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

listen not with your ears, but your heart.
true sounds that stir the soul cannot be forced.
you do yourselves injustice, tainting yourself,
withering from the vine, hearts filled with dark.
listen for the only clear tone, piercing through to you.

enoch, Sunday, 18 May 2003 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Christgau commented on that too? I remember noting that when I bought the first Weezer. Never listen to the Weezer though.

Hot Snakes - Automatic Midnight

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 18 May 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I got them in reverse order. I liked SI much better than AM. What's the deal? Is one of them from DC? They mention Mount Pleasant in one song... the one about cigarettes.
