It's the Memorial Day Motor City celebration -- the DEMF by any other name -- but who's the real draw? I'll hit a softball and say Liquid Liquid. Anyone else?

Funny thing is, I care more about seeing this than I do about 95% of the Detroit Electronic Music Funeral:

By chance, do you know Tony Drake? I think he's playing in Timespace...

I met him once and have heard a few of his tracks, but I do not know him personally. Timespace kicked serious ass at Motor a few years back.

Unless I'm mistaken the last live Moodymann show was at last year's Trackmode DEMF afterparty. He had the Prince/cover-of-self-titled-album look and was running all over the stage while his uh woman suggestively writhed beneath the sheets of a makeshift bed. Moodymann: "Anyone wanna see my ass?" He then proceeded to simulate something.

Anyhow:

(BTW Erick: I'm not going to Adult.)

No Adult. for Andy...Ah well. And I see that no one outside of Michigan cares about this thread, and that's ok, too.

To be honest, if the Laura Gavoor benefit were the only dance gig I attended in 2003 I would not feel like I missed much. There is a lot of talent on the demf bill, but it is talent that would be a lot more enjoyable in more intimate venues. I made my electronic music rounds in Detroit from 95-02 and I have seen just about every established talent 5 times in better venues.

Music is a very big world, and I have burned myself out on most electronic stuff. I am sure there will be a lot of great acts, it is just that there are other musical ideas that I find more interesting at the moment. I hope everybody does well, it is just that I am just not very excited about the festival in particular and electronic music in general. This year's DEMF is meh because of my lack of interest, not because of anyone else’s possible lack of talent.

I worked with Tony for a few years in Mt. Pleasant at Michigan Wherehouse...then we went our separate ways. He's still making great music, but he's not releasing it. I'd go to his apartment and hear some cool track playing, and then he'd say it was him and play it off like it was nothin'. One of my former girlfriends said he looks like my doppelganger, but black.

File this post in the "who the hell cares?" department, right?
