colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

what are his strengths these days? if his songs are crap, maybe he should get in someone like Nigel Godrich or summat

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Thomas Bangalter.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim O'Rourke

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Thomas Bangalter.

So true! This record would own us all. (but Timbaland should totally get to do some remixes)

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Cex!

Jason J, Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

My dad.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Timbaland

It certainly wouldn't be dull if he did.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

tok tok.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Matmos and Yamataka Eye.

maria b (maria b), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Matthew Herbert, The Neptunes and Johnny Cash (the garage one altho I'd have no objections to The Man In Black making an appearance either)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i would think an all kompakt-produced bowie album would be fabbo

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess is onto something there.

I would say Rob Morgan of the Squirrels.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 May 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess great idea - hows about Superpitcher top guy w/ the old vocals!!!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 15 May 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Adrain Utley from Portishead.
Or The Insects.

DFA so he can remake "Station To Station"

mosurock (mosurock), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil Spector

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone on this list should get one track, remaking an old bowie tune, and do a double disc thing.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Timbaland already did that version of "Diamond Dogs" with Beck on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack that was kinda a'ight.

As for producing the new Bowie record, I suggest: whoever the fuck "produces" Wesley Willis' albums.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 May 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a story in todays billboard.com update that LA production team The Matrix (Avril Lavigne / Liz Phair) are going to be involved on the new Bowie record...

dekone, Thursday, 15 May 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops...didn't see the other thread about it...sorry.

Petalpusher

Paul R (paul R), Thursday, 15 May 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Keiran Hebden.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 15 May 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Broadcast.

It sounds silly, but imagine Bowie crooning over C'mon Lets Go.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Thursday, 15 May 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Taylor, you are inspired (seeing Broadcast last week certainly doesn't hurt me in this imagining).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Dale Morningstar at the old Gas Station on the island.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Bowie crooning over C'mon Lets Go.

that sounds wonderful

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the legendary stardust cowboy, but only if he removes both his hearing aids.

pauls00, Friday, 16 May 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The Boredoms.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 16 May 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Momus.

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 16 May 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it should be me.
My friend has a nice 16 track analogue studio in his attic, music sounds very warm and rich in there. Renting it by the week, Bowie would save about a $100k.

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Friday, 16 May 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

dean and gene ween.

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 16 May 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

still waiting.

did anything from this team up get released ?

also, in 2010 the official DB website is truly awful. is it better inside for those that pay up to have full access ?

mark e, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

Bowie + Steven Stapleton would get me to the record store.

I DONT WANT HOUSE CHICKEN I WANT THIS PLACE CHICKEN! (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 17:36 (fifteen years ago)

Bowie and Ke$ha duet, plz.

Bowie and Ke$ha duet, plz.

far more preferable to him getting timbaland in to produce anything.

mark e, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

Bowie shoegaze would work very nice

Shields/Bowie collab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

A Shields collaboration would force Bowie to shout over the din -- a horrifying thought.

filling the medicare donut hole with the semen of liberal (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

why did he stop the flow of albums since 2003?
is it connected to the heart attack?

Zeno, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:49 (fifteen years ago)

That's what I've heard. And who could blame him.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

he doesn't make music anymore because of his heart attack? Huh. Is making music that much of a strain on the heart? I can see why he wouldn't want to tour anymore ...

tylerw, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:53 (fifteen years ago)

s making music that much of a strain on the heart?

He doesn't feel it anymore, maaaan.

filling the medicare donut hole with the semen of liberal (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

is making music that much of a strain on the heart?

I would guess Bowie gets pretty intense about making records - long studio stints are stressful for sure, though it's not like it's cardio or anything

Twink Will Ferrell (J0hn D.), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

what does a David Bowie do all day? if he's not making movies or making music. just kick it w/ Iman?

tylerw, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:03 (fifteen years ago)

well, he stopped smoking, stopped touring and stop recording since.
obv. he is not into the whole music business as he used to be. plus he is 63, plus his latest records are mediocre at best - and if he is aware of that - i adore him.
it's a good time to retire.(before becoming pathetic)

Zeno, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

I'm 99.9% sure this story is 100% bullshit.

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

according to this site he is working on an autobiography:

http://www.bowiewonderworld.com/bowienews/news.htm

Zeno, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

surprised he hasn't made a dubstep record already

emotional radiohead whatever (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

bowie autobio would be ... interesting. wonder how candid it'd be?

tylerw, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:37 (fifteen years ago)

(btw, it has no mentioning everywhere except for this website)

Zeno, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:40 (fifteen years ago)

he has basically vanished from the public eye so I think his health is worse than just 'he had a heart attack'. the last thing he did was, what, the cameo on the scarlett johansson record three years ago?

akm, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)

A Shields collaboration would force Bowie to shout over the din -- a horrifying thought.

Yes, but I still think it'd work... songs like Heroes would be incredible with a bit of Kevin in there adding an eternal buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

kelpolaris, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 01:06 (fifteen years ago)

David Bowie wants ideas.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 02:45 (fifteen years ago)

why did he stop the flow of albums since 2003?

Maybe, like Dylan, he finally realized he doesn't have an-album-a-year's worth of good material in him anymore.

Hideous Lump, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 03:32 (fifteen years ago)

That's kind of odd, considering how good Heathen and Reality were. Much better than anything he'd turned out for close to a decade beforehand.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 03:39 (fifteen years ago)

Well, I did say "maybe." *Crawls off to die*

Hideous Lump, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

Well, he tried going back to Nile Rodgers, then went back to Eno, then back to Tony Visconti. I guess Ken Scott it next out then.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

And, yep, I am longing for some new stuff from him. "Heathen" and "Reality" were his best in ages, and it seems strange that his productivity waned just after that.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 09:57 (fifteen years ago)

Btw there are recent photos here:

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 10:00 (fifteen years ago)

(I guess Iman looks healthier than Bowie though.....)

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 10:00 (fifteen years ago)

He was in the mezzanine seats when I saw Secret Machines in NYC about 3 years ago and he sure did not look like a guy in poor health. But then 3 years in yr 60s is a long time...

I think he definitely still 'makes the scene' even if not producing anything.

I DONT WANT HOUSE CHICKEN I WANT THIS PLACE CHICKEN! (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

x-postish I'm surprised he doesn't crop up as a guest vocalist on random tracks more often. He'd be a great addition to some dubstep stuff.

He was great the last two times I saw him live. I wonder if he has it in him to tour again?

Six years pass ...

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

2004 tour was indeed great. I had a dream the other night that I was attending it again!

I turn it up when I hear the banjo (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

you know, it wouldn't come as that big a surprise if he and david sitek have on the qt been putting together an album that magically appears with little warning.

mark e, Thursday, 8 April 2010 09:35 (fifteen years ago)

surprised he hasn't made a dubstep record already
