what would you ask them?

C J (C J), Thursday, 15 May 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You're looking remarkably well, considering...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 15 May 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

1) Does your conscience bother you? Tell me true.

2) Shouldn't you stay, little girl, where there ain't no shame?

3) Who's better -- the Drive By Truckers or Montgomery Gentry?

And here's what they'd probably tell me:

Don't ask me no questions
And I won't tell you no lies.
don't ask me about my business,
And I won't tell you goodbye.
I said don't ask no stupid questions
And I won't send you away.
If you want to talk fishin',
Well I guess that'll be OK.

chuck, Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"Explain to me how 'What's Your Name?' and 'Don't Ask Me No Questions' are different songs?"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 16 May 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Xmas albums suck don't they

dave q, Friday, 16 May 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

you really should ask them about the Drive-By Truckers

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

when the rest of you get to hell, which do you think you'll be forced to listen to over and over: "that smell" or "freebird"?

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

and how long will it take you to kick your null fame's ass when she ends up there?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

ask them what they think about what Travis Tritt did and if they're pro-Tritt and concilliatory ask them 'well then why didn't you guys follow thru?', then ask them about Molly Hatchet playing that protest alternate show in Greenville circa Dixie Chix brouhaha and hope they don't know that actually it was the Marshall Tucker Band.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask them to play w/ Duane Allman.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Or Greg Allman.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Or Marc Almond.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd ask them what they thought about "Sweet Home.." being used to Ecuadorian Cocoa beans to the British public.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"used to sell"

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

and how long will it take you to kick your null fame's ass when she ends up there?

last time i was at a record store they were playing "that smell" over and over. don't talk to me about hell, i've already been there.

and black oak arkansas kicks skynyrd's ass any day of the week.

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

If you had to interview Lynyrd Skynyrd tomorrow
would you still remember me?

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 16 May 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd start drinking right now, lots of Beam. I'd wear my Bush-International War Criminal t-shirt and refuse to take off my sunglasses until they All took off theirs.
"So, your Lynyrd Skynyrd.....
Bands all over the world have reacted in differeing ways, rainging from ignoring the bastard and secretly wishing him (always a him) Dead, to throwing the cinderblock infront of the bass drum into the audience, how do you guys react when people yell 'Freebird' to you?
How does it feel to be responsible for causing that?
What do you think about rednecks listening to rock music?
How does it feel to be responsible for causing that?
You didn't care for Neil Young very much did you?
How does it feel seeing him play with younger bands like Pearl Jam and your kinda stuck in the 70's?
Do you have any fans under the age of 35? How many of them would you say, probably have a drinking problem? What have you done recently to reach out to the African American community?
Play any good county fairs/race tracks lately?
At what point did you, as a band, become aware of the fact that you went from being a top selling, genre defining, popular icon to being socially and culturally redundant?
Straight up or rocks?"

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Friday, 16 May 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

>>You didn't care for Neil Young very much did you?
How does it feel seeing him play with younger bands like Pearl Jam and your kinda stuck in the 70's?<<<

Actually, since the Driv-By Truckers (who are probably younger, and definitely at least 5000 times better, than Pearl Jam) have TOURED with Skynyrd, the latter question is moot. According to the Truckers' *Southern Rock Opera* album, the former is moot, too; Skynyrd and Young actually really respected each other, to the point that Neil was supppsedly a pall-bearer at one of the post-plane-crash funerals!

Another question for them, though:

I'm as free as a bird now; how bout you?

p.s.) One of things they've always done to reach out to the African-American community is having one of the funkiest rhythm sections in the history of white rock, by the way. That song where they told George Wallace "boo boo boo" didn't hurt either, if you ask me.

You might also consider asking them about the N.R.A., since "Saturday Night Special" is probably the most pro-gun-control rock song ever.

Not to mention about the R.I.A.A., since "Working for MCA" is one of the most anti-music-industry rock songs ever. Whatever you do, don't act like they're a dumb hick band. If you do, you're a fucking idiot.

chuck, Friday, 16 May 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

(And they've had gun problems themselves, if I remember. I never read the bio, but they were BIG problems, right? So the contradition of "Saturday Night Special" makes them MORE intersting, not less.)

And another thing: Ask them about Kid Rock. And how about how rock from the South no longer cares about its Southernness. And so on.

chuck, Friday, 16 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I dead?

Will (will), Friday, 16 May 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"So, what's your take on 38 Special? Really? Oh, my bad."

J (Jay), Friday, 16 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"Would you like a PBR?"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 16 May 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeepers, I pissed on chuck.
Let me put it this way, THEIR FANS ARE DUMB HICKS.
Is that better?

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Friday, 16 May 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Being a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan is about all the dumb hick I have in me. Anyway, Brandon Welch, what have you done recently to reach out to the African American community?

Kris (aqueduct), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Did anyone catch the Skynyrd special on VH1 "Uncivil War" or something like that? It was aired only a few times, but it was great. Jake Tapper went on the road to talk with the surviving members, and besides Artimus Pyle threatening Garry Rossington (to Tapper, not Rossington, obv), there was other outrageousness. One of which was Johnny Van Zant shooting snakes in his backyard with a shotgun. He was cackling as he fired off rounds. Tapper was visibly scared shitless. It amused Van Zant. Creeeepy.

Here's the link.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Tapper's smarmy but great. And that show REALLY pissed off the Skynyrd boys.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oooh really? Do tell!

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"So then, what's your take on Artemis Pyle? Ow! Alright, ya fuckin' prick, this interview's OVER!"

J (Jay), Friday, 16 May 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for asking Kris,
I'm an active anti-fascist and I founded a performance group whose mission is to "Artistically combat hatred and intolerence" in 2000. Before that I worked with at risk, emotionally disturbed children and teens in the juvenile detention system.
I also did educational children's theatre, often in Baltimore's inner city schools and I worked and ran programs at a children's museum, also in downtown Baltimore.
I don't know if you'd count any of that as outreach, purhaps an attempt at bridging the palpable racial divide in my home town?

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Friday, 16 May 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, Brandon Welch, what have you done recently to reach out to the poor, working class white community?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 16 May 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

oh them he just namecalls, 'they're animals anyway so let them lose their souls' doncha know

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 17 May 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually James,
I am just getting ready to do a reprisal of my award winning one person show Welcome to Baltimore, Hon. In it I examine the stereo-types and classism assosiated with Baltimore's national white trash image.
I use the term "redneck" to define ignorant, violent, racist people who choose to be that way, in fact many will use the term to describe themselves, especially when waving their confederate flags. This has more to do with geography and personal aesthetic than economic strata, considering many "necks" make quite a lot more money then I do. I leave the issue of a soul up to a wiser Don, then I.

Have I reached Troll yet?

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Saturday, 17 May 2003 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

you're on your way. brevity's the sole of wit.
