I'm still trying to find that bio of A.P. Carter...

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 15 May 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

No...

How sad.

slutsky (slutsky), Thursday, 15 May 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

im listening to tiffany nasatia lowe and its so hard to imagine her dying.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

:( :( :(

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, man. Comes to all of us, but it's still no damn good. RIP

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

And sadly, I think Johnny is not too far behind. I don't think he will die from health complications, I think it will be from loneliness. He really loved that woman.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

That is sad. Who'd have ever thought she'd go before Johnny? What will he do without her?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 May 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. Shocking and sad. The first thing everybody will mention is they thought Johnny would go first (or even daughter Carlene Carter) but the lady was a major, major talent on her own merits and her contributions to country and music in general will always be remembered.

Jeff K (jeff k), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, can't believe she went first. Poor Johnny.
Shakey, have you read "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone," about the Carter Family?

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

:(

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

This is very sad news. I feel bad for Johnny and the rest of her family. RIP.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I read this earlier today...very sad.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 16 May 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Johnny, man...

Wired Flounder (Wired Flounder), Friday, 16 May 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

damn damn damn
did anybody here the album she released in 2000-ish? I think it was only her second proper alb. She devoted the bulk of her life to simply keeping johnny alive, and while she deserves much gratitude for that, I for one would have liked to have HEARD her more...a truly amazing singer.

Horace Mann (Not At Home), Friday, 16 May 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

RIP... poor Johnny

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 16 May 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

She was an angel.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 16 May 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Unbelievably sad news.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 16 May 2003 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

That's very sad news. My heart goes out to Johnny and the family.

I have to say my first thought was the same as Mike Taylor's, but I hope we're wrong.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Sad. Johnny's strong, I hope he gets through this somehow...

willem (willem), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

That new video of his will be even more painful to watch now, I guess (the NIN cover version). Hope he manages to carry on somehow - I keep thinking of Dennis Potter; his wife died first, and then he more or less gave up and passed away about ten days later. This is awful, awful news :-(

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 16 May 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh God...

I hope Johnny doesn't go. This is so sad.

David Allen, Friday, 16 May 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Both my grandfathers (who were in seemingly good health) passed within 8 months of their respective wives. There's something magically sweet, but very very sad in that too, the way that a shared lifetime can connect two people beyond biology.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

How strange...I just read the profile of her in the 2000 Da Capo book last night...seemed like an interesting & talented woman, v. sad.

Mark (MarkR), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

She seemed like the pillar in that family, didn't she? R.I.P.

scott m (mcd), Friday, 16 May 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 17 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking the same as Marcello, except I was remembering my grandparents dying within a month of each other. I think one partner losing the will to live when the other goes is not rare. Still, we shouldn't just think of Johnny - RIP June.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 17 May 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's sad. This may sound weird but I randomly saw the Dr. Quinn episode they both were in, and damn if they weren't one of the cutest old couples I ever saw. My sympathies definitely go out to the family (this probably isn't gonna help Carlene Carter get herself back together).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

the NIN cover came on a mix cd yesterday and it took me 30 seconds to remember june had died and by the end of the song i was just flattened. rip.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
I hope the family will get through the hard time and look forward to seeing their parents together again.

robin ward, Wednesday, 29 March 2006 03:53 (nineteen years ago)

Well, it must be out on DVD soon.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 04:03 (nineteen years ago)

Was I really the only one to give the June Carter 2 disc dap on Pazz and Jop?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

revives of R.I.P. threads always make me think weird shit for a split second. "oh, they're dead?...uh, still?"

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 06:18 (nineteen years ago)

No one's really dead as long as Reese Witherspoon can double her price after winning a doorstop for playing them.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

Good news for maureen stapleton.
