Anyway, either way, it's fucking ace. Classic New Order, but with slightly harder guitars. Funny how formulaic they've become, but to me that's a good thing, because even while forumulaic, they still manage something to surprise. Paul was saying about half a minute in "it's getting a bit samey now..." and I replied "Worry not, in about 20 seconds, the bass will swoop in, and we'll have the big, uplifting chorus." But NO!!! Instead of the bass swooping in, the drums kicked up an electronic fuss and there was a big uplifting chorus. The lovely lovely bass wasn't until the middle 8, but oh, the lovely bass was so lovely.
I like it. It's everything I like New Order for. And I really wasn't expecting to like it at all.
Has it really been eight years? Blinkin' heck, I can remember exactly when the last one came out, coz I was working in a record store.

New order is Hooky. Can't think of another band apart from Chic in which the bass player is the focus of the sound, without him NO would be just an above average synth pop band instead of the stadium filling colossi they are.
Altogether now dun dun dun dun dun dun duu du da
Not sure if I go all the way with that... sure, it is a recognizable feature of New Order and Joy Division -- that of the melody being played in the bass and loud in the mix... but I think that the true backbone is Stephen Morris... he is the sanity of the band, and the others have mentioned that at some point or another... look no further than what makes Atmosphere what it is... and how MOVEMENT contrasts in mood with PC&L as his style changed... though other things changed too (Peter mentioning that they learned a lot in the interim)...
So, I am just thinking a bit more of the implication of "is" without being to Clintonesque, on what the meaning of "is" is. ;-)
