made some ardkore/jungle/etc mix-cds for m4rc3l to bring him up to speed on what's blown my mind in the past eight months or so (we're both v.familiar with, say, concord dawn/shapeshifter style contemporary drum'n'bass (haha CD as trance'n'bass?) but we'd never listened to anything earlier (never had the chance, being in NZ & it's (relative) obscurity, until I got slsk).
so, tell me what you think or that (haven't burned them yet haha, so there's still time for alterations to be made).

10 - m beat ft general levy - incredible

Jungle Mafia to thread!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

these look so ace written down, like minna i would have to hear it all to test out nuances, limbs etc. you've pretty much got it wrapped up (maybe not enough Reinforced).

on this topic, does anyone know that hardcore tune with female vox and a rap where the MC says he's "after your love, not your blood, i'm not Dracula"?

nebbesh (nebbesh), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

pretty much all good and comprehensive for the whole 'rave' chronology

08 - satin storm - think i'm going out of my head

is this the same one i call 'Nicholas Parsons' because thats what it sounds like the sample is saying...it has really warped horns and spooky strings throughout - produced by Gavin Cheung aka Nookie

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

:::drool:::

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

minna you have got a reasonable amount of these tracks surely?

i like the 3rd of the the 3 rave/ardkore best, the 2nd is good but, for me, spoiled by the opus3 and messiah tracks.

anyway, compare and contrast with The S Trife Dance Primer

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

the Opus III and Messiah tracks are both mighty fine!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Are these CDs mixed?

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

now that would be amazing

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The artcore jungle one contains two personal faves of mine, Atlantis (I need you) and Super Sharp Shooter, so well done!

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

siegbran - oops, no. just compilations created from mp3s.

stevem - hadn't noticed that bit of the vocal before, but yes, it seems so.

nebbesh - no, but that track sounds awesome! as you may have garnered from the tracklist I'm a sucker for "duff euro-rapping" over rave tracks.

gareth - can you think of any other folk-rave tracks to replace the Opus III, then? & thanks for the link - I can't believe I'd forgotten Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era!

(minna - what gareth said - I thought you'd have way, way more stuff than I would!)

(& can I give props to Dan Perry - "James Brown Is Dead" & "Androids" wouldn't be on there if it weren't for his championing of them, & he doesn't seem to get much kudos for his non-vocals-related posts).

(haha this tracklisting = 70% ILM posts/jess & tom's top 100 singles of the 90s; 25% simon reynolds; 5% random discoveries).

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

he doesn't seem to get much kudos for his non-vocals-related posts

He does, but they're not said loud enough, I figure. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

if you MUST replace Opus III then you MUST replace it with:

Fantasy UFO 'Fantasy'

disco stu (disco stu), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Loads of classics, but Stevem reminds me of the great 'Tell Me Why' by Rachel Wallace, so fit that in too!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got another brilliant Satin Storm tune on vinyl with a nice clarinet break ('pacific' style) and a sampled loop saying 'original bwadbwoy!' over and over, must dig that out pronto

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, is Debbie Malone, 'Rescue Me' floating around on mp3. it kinda needs +8ing for full giddiness, but that should go on any comp.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

who would've thought 'bwadbwoy' and 'pronto' would ever be used in the same sentence?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

some Hollywood producer is gunning a hilarious culture-clash comedy on that very idea.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

3 other tracks i feel are missing from those CDs

Doc Scott 'NHS'

Nino 'The Gun'

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I guess you're right, it's too much mid'90s.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

sometimes i get greedy

minna (minna), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I guess you're right, it's too much mid'90s.

more than that, its quite a bit cheesier and poppier than the other stuff!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ardkore without cheese is just so much toast.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
man, I wish I still had all these tracks :(

who ended up making an energy flash boxset? matos? I've finally gotten around to getting a copy from the UK for the express purposes of making my future bandmate read it, & I'd like to have a comprehensive soundtrack to go with it. can't seem to find a tracklisting on ILx, anyway.

etc, Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

krome & time "license" is a glaring omission on this thread

Amon (eman), Saturday, 14 May 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

turns out is wasn't on ILx, but on matos' blog - here. It's a lot less 'ardkore-&-related than I remember the book being, though - maybe I'll reread the book & work something out myself.

etc, Monday, 16 May 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

what happened to them all? i have most of them i think.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 16 May 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)
