Lets assume that Azerrad will make a sequel. What 15 bands should be profiled in it?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The Pixies?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Good. Good. And what other 14?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The Meat Puppets-he namedropped them enough in the first book!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they have to be from the 1980s? If not - Pavement.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

A chapter on The Dwarves could serve the same purpose as the Butthole Surfers one did in the first book.

Flaming Lips, obv.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. But then he'd have to do a GBV profile immediately afterward.
Anyhow...does anyone on ILM know Azerrad personally and can send him a petition when we finish this thread?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Dead Kennedys.
Pussy Galore.
Throwing Muses.
Screaming Trees.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Not many to speak of where Band=Life. After the 80s hardcore scene ended, ..

But in the Pixies vein: Morphine, Yo La Tengo, Blake Babies, Big Dipper, Dumptruck.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Mercury Rev.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Pussy Galore
Helmet
Swans
Prong
Unsane
Cop Shoot Cop
Foetus
Live Skull
the Black Snakes
...actually, I want to write this book.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

second Live Skull.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

he should only focus on the louisville scene.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Shellac.
Meat Puppets.
Palace Brothers.
Smog.

Busta Rhymes?

Jason J, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd guess he'd choose : Janes Addiction, Bad Brains, Meat Puppets, Redd Kross,Screaming Trees, Soundgarden,Pixies,Flaming Lips,Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo,Pavement,Superchunk,Mercury Rev,Slint and REM. Not an ILM friendly book though really.

Godley, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

SPACEMEN FUCKING 3!

ddb, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

er, I can't personally see Azzerad doing a sort of sequel/greatest hits.

hstencil, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

and actually I always wanted to write an oral history of the Louisville scene, but I'll probably never get around to it (plus I'm pretty much out of it these days).

hstencil, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll repeat it in case nobody noticed:
"...does anyone on ILM know Azerrad personally and can send him a petition when we finish this thread?"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

A 90's book would have to have huge chapters on Pavement and Slint, obviously. Bikini Kill, if he could stand to talk to girls long enough to get the interviews. Shellac, except maybe he'd have some rule where he can't talk about any bands whose members were in the last book's bands. I don't think he'd talk about the Pixies or Mercury Rev or the Flaming Lips because of his no-major-label rule. An Urge Overkill chapter would totally rule, but it'd be unlikely. I suppose it's possible that he'd include Company Flow, but I doubt it (he should, though). The Jesus Lizard. Palace. Superchunk. Sleater-Kinney. Low. Cat Power. Modest Mouse. He'd have to include something to equal the Black Flag and Minor Threat chapters; I think it would be hilarious if he put in Pennywise or somebody, but there's no way.

Tom Breihan (Tom Breihan), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Not to be painfully predictable, but...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(oh fuck, there is that whole "no major label" thing, which I always forget about, cuz I is dunbass)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Custos, again I've met him (and know people who know him) and I just don't see that he'd be interested.

hstencil, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I can get the thread to him, Custos, but it's not like these bands would be revelations to him...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe someone on ILX could write it. That way we all get the bands we want covered. Could anyone be bothered writing 30 odd chapters? haha

Godley, Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm actually meeting with a literary agent tomorrow morning. No joke.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

No Joke? What will you write about then? hahaha

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The thing that made the *"first"* book work was the stories about the bands and the DIY ethic.. As much as I love the bands mentioned, i'm not too interest in reading their tour diaries or how they met each other.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

anyway, congrats alex! i hope it works out!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, hstencil...I didn't know you were directly answering my questions. I thought you were just thinking out loud. Mea Culpa.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Unwound?

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

by Azerrad

I can't wait.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(Nick, are you sure you'd want to read the results of this?)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"Flipper"

Now that would be amazing, DB.

die9o (dhadis), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

But not as amazing as

AZERRAD
"420 Miles An Hour And Several Spliffs: Kottonmouth Kings Yomofucka"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots of these bands deserve their own damn book, not just a paltry chapter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

AZERRAD
"Laugh? I Nearly Read It! The Compulsory Tale of Killing Joke"

"It Takes Several Licks To Get To The Center Of Your Boo: In Too Deep With Lil' Kim"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Laugh now. Weep, bitter caustic tears as you wolf down a hearty helping of humble pie with a side dish of crow later.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks to db maybe I will send this to him!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Morphine, Yo La Tengo

Part II: Our Band Could Be About Your Life

I think a whole book about Matador Records is in order. If he won't write it, maybe I will.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Pussy Galore/JSBX/Royal Trux.
Nation OF Ulysses/mAKE UP.
