GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

What are some songs that get stuck in your head that you wish wouldn't get stuck in your head?

"All The Things She Said"-T.a.T.u
"Losing Grip"-Avril what ever her last name is

Those are two that I can't stand having stuck in my head.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

My answer: "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger.
My wife's answer: "Breakaway" by Tracey Ullman.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

that bloody t.a.t.u song. i had insonmia the other night and it kept flippin running through my head running through my head. did my head in. it did.

gallantseagull, Wednesday, 21 May 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Sister Christian! Ha!

I always get Journey songs stuck in my head. It does me no good.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That Justin Timberlake song ("Rock Your Body"?) is beyond catchy. I have to counteract w/an even more catchy ditty, such as "Borderline" or "YMCA". The cure may be worse than the disease.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think "Rock Your Body" is even remotely catchy. In fact, I can't even remember how it goes. "Cry Me a River," however, is genius. Pure and simple.

Oh! The Damage is Done so I guess I'll be leavin'.....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

see, 'Cry Me a River' is bland to me. I wouldn't be able to pick it out in a line-up.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

That's insane! "Cry Me A River" is just about the best song I've heard this year not called "Danger! High Voltage!" I like the beat to Rock Your Body but that's about it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

well yeah, the beat is the part that gets stuck in my head, along w/some vague falsetto singing.
and i don't care for 'songs' too much so 'River' is just blah--well done, but nothing distinctive

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh god, oh god, it's there again, just through thinking about it... "Everybody... move your feet and feel uuuuu-niiiii-ted!"

AAARRRRGGGHHHHh!!!

kate, Wednesday, 21 May 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

WhoAoAoAo-Oh!

Yeah, that. Thanks, Kate.

(But here I am with the 'Under Pressure' rescue package: 'turn away from it all like a blind man...')

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

not gonna get us or whatever the new tatu song is called is jammed in my subconscious now as is 50 cent's in da club and junior senior's move your feet... not a bad little cranial jukebox really...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"Gimme the Light"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

'Cry Me a River' is bland to me.

Oh, it's memorable all right. In the sense that something is vicious and viscously evil.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

is "viscously evil" anything like "magically delicious?"

(or "magically malicious", morelike...)

for me, it tends to be "Can't Get You Out Of My Head." particularly the "lalala" parts. EVIL.

janni (janni), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the Flaming Lip's cover is a good cure for "Can't Get You Out of My Head". Sure, it's the same evil song, but somehow it becomes beautiful.

Mike Salmo (salmo), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i still haven't heard it, although i've no doubt it's amusing.

on a better (and tangentially related) note, i'll also sometimes randomly get Johnny Cash's version of "Rusty Cage" stuck in my head. never fails to make me smile. :)

janni (janni), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Why is it that only *parts* of songs get stuck in my head? I don't ever know the entire song, but ONE DAMN LINE of it will play itself over and over and over in my head. It sucks. For example, the new Lisa Marie Presley song. All I know is "Someone turned the lights out here in Memphis..."

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

God dangit, now I've got the 'la la la' part from "Can't Get You Outta My Head" stuck in MY head!

(fwiw, I actually quite like this song...it sounds so eerie and drrrty)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i seem to have a love/hate relationship with "Can't Get You Out Of My Head." i mean, i don't really love it, but i respect its incipient evil as regards the fact that it does exactly what it says on the box. XD

janni (janni), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

For some unexplicable reason, I can't shake Carly Simon's 'Jesse' today. God knows I haven't heard it in years!

Bill E (bill_e), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ack! I had the whole of Paul & LInda McCartney's "Ram" in my head one night and it wasn't pretty.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

only hardcore Warrant fans will understand this one but...

32 PENNIES IN A RAGU JAR! OOH OOH!

It's been 3 days now, it won't stop.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 22 May 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there really such a thing as a "hardcore Warrant fan"? What a tragic concept.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 22 May 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I have FINALLY managed to dislodge "You Said No" by Busted from my head by a rousing chorus of "We Used To Be Friends" by the Durannie Warhols. I am IMMENSELY relieved. ::clap clap::

kate, Friday, 23 May 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The opening riff of "Life's Been Good" - Joe Walsh. Gets stuck in my head weekly - and has for the past 25 years. I've never even really liked that song - even in Jr. High. It tends to creep into my head when I'm lifting something heavy... go figure.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 23 May 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

You lot have got it easy. Wait till "No Reply" gets into your head. Only then will you know suffering.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 23 May 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

smoke on the water...cos of some stupid commercial. man, i have a passionate dislike of deep purple.

higgins, Friday, 23 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"...hey, the way we go, through the grass, frost and snow..."

blanca, Saturday, 24 May 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"Gaz-pacho/ The funky pacho" has been in my head for so many months now after a distrastrous attempt to make gazpacho that I have no clue what the real words are.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 24 May 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel like Homer.

And all these little things in life they all create this haze
There’s too many things to get done, and I’m running out of days...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 26 May 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Like Alex in NYC, my choice would have to be a Night Ranger song -- "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" or whatever the name of the song is. Schlocky to the max (like, totally), but damn it if it doesn't get stuck in my head every time I end up listening to it. How the hell do they manage to do that?

Ugh, now I have to play something to get that song out of my head.

*fires up WinAmp*

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 26 May 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Every so often, Idlewild's "When I argue I see shapes" gets stuck in my head and refuses to leave for at least a week, no matter what I do. I once made it my mobile ringtone just to make everyone else suffer as much as I did.

Does anyone get this horrific mishmash of songs looping round and round when reading this thread? i asked you to dance at the dis-co la la la la la-la la so you grab your girls and you grab a couple more argh.

cis (cis), Monday, 26 May 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

For the last week, I've had "Always Something" by Lucy Woodward in my head, because it's the soundtrack to my life right now, and it's also song of the year so far for me.

blutroniq (blutroniq), Monday, 26 May 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"We Built This City" by Jefferson Starship...the rare moments it's gone, their "Sarah" holds down the valuable brain property. None else shall enter!

Fivvy (Fivvy), Monday, 26 May 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ive had that song by ringo starr "It dont come easy" in my head consistantly for like 2 yrs

chaki (chaki), Monday, 26 May 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

This has been terrorising me all morning:

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like
It's got a basket, a bell that rings and things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you everything anything if you want things.

I've got a plan of gingerbread men here are men there are men
Lots of gingerbread men.
Have a couple if you wish, they're on the dish.

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

Chip Morningstar (bob), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

song duels are the worst. worst, worst, worst. they keep fighting each other for control of my brain and won't STOP. *bangs head into something*

due to a friend recently seeing Donnie Darko and the resulting conversation, i have Echo & the Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon" and the Church's "Under the Milky Way" chasing each other around for control of my brain. and while i often do have some song or other stuck in my head, it's always worse when there's two...

*scoops brain out with trowel and flings out nearest window*

there. all better.

janni (janni), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! Where did my post go? I wrote something about songs being better when they are weirdly in tandem.

Last week, I had Kraftwerk's The Model and Salt N Peppa's Push It both stuck in my head at once, and the result was weirdly wonderful.

Now post, damn you!

kate, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

...and this, my friends, is how the Art Of The Mashup was born. :)

janni (janni), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it was from Hell-tapes, actually. I did a great one with Into My Hands by The Church and Patience by Guns N Roses that made metalheads and paisley underground types alike gnash their teeth in offense!

kate, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

*stands back and admires your inherent giddy evil*

...wow. truly a force to be reckoned with. :)

"Danger! High Voltage!" is also evil for getting stuck in one's head. or at least, in my head. fire in the Taco Bell indeed.
