"drums of death 4: so very tired"

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 May 2003 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

can't wait for the Chris Martin/Talib Kweli duet!

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 22 May 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

(should be "begin" upthread, obv)

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 22 May 2003 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit. I can't believe this is going to exist. Why can James Labvelle not get over the fact that all he's good for is releasing albums, not recording them? The last one tried way too fucking hard.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 22 May 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Did he even do anything on the last one, besides hooking up the talent w/one another? Wasn't it basically a Dj Shadow record?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 22 May 2003 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You can sense him standing in the backgroundYoda-styl;e muttering shit like "cool enough I think this is".

oh you big bullies

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 22 May 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i kind of liked the mix Lavelle did for the Fabric series, if only because i got to hear Green Velvet - "La La Land" for the 1st time

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 22 May 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I do not want to hear this ...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 22 May 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

...but wasn't the only good thing about the last one the artwork......?

russ t, Thursday, 22 May 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

mint have you heard it already? I was under the impression there wasn't even a tracklist yet.

anyway there's a track with Brian Eno AND Jarvis Cocker. potential.

Simon H., Friday, 23 May 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Again I boggle at the hate. _Psyence Fiction_ was great and has actually aged better than DJ Shadow's records (that first full track off of _Endtroducing_ notwithstanding).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone hates James Lavelle, its the law. the thing is UNKLE's new album is described as 'soundscapes' so its clearly just cinematic background ambience unlikely to excite - the only crime being that it bores people. i imagine Lavelle absoultely adores '100th Window'. Lavelle may be a tad pretentious (as may Davis) but i've never been that bothered by it. i'd still like to hear/see 'An Eye For An Eye' from last year tho.

three years pass...
Well, weren't we supposed to know more about The Future Is Unwritten by now? http://www.unkle.com starts with a little ad for it, but no release date. Wikipedia still has the info Billboard had in January ("As of the end of January 2006, UNKLE's new album The Future is Unwritten was being mixed in London. It is currently expected in Autumn 2006, and it will feature guest appearances by Josh Homme, Brody Dalle (The Distillers), Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Psycho Pab and Autolux"), but that's it: nothing more.

Ah. http://www.myspace.com/unkle : "Look for a new UNKLE album early 2007." (not using that title anymore then? Is it because of the Joe Strummer movie with the same title?)

seven months pass...

okay, the new UNKLE album kind of reminds me a LOT of Primal Scream. there are some quite nice tracks.

Ian Astbury...in 2007...guhhh...

blueski, Friday, 8 June 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

i actually think that 'Burn My Shadow' has some good Astbury moments. the Dan F minimal mix of it is also pretty passable-- i'd play it at a party, as a breather.

one month passes...

am i wrong to be enjoying the instrumental version more than the proper guest laden one ?
in fact the Josh Homme track Restless positively jumps out without his vocals on it.
and yeah, that Dan F remix is pretty fine methinks.
in fact, there was an extra disc that came with pre-orders that goes deeper into the minimal thing (well as minimal as UNKLE can do with their cinematic production sheen of course) - again, i've been listening to that more than the album proper.
