I'd love to believe that, Yanc3y, except that, unless there's a couple months' gap between MM working on the record & MM posting, it can't be the Ataris. Unless I haven't been reading closely, Bitchslap is nowhere near ready to release a record (as of March 2003), while the Ataris LP has been on shelves since early this year (as far as I know).

The Ataris album came out in early March, yeah. But supposedly Mixerman's entries were posted way after the recording was actually completed. Some people at the Velvet Rope determined this primarily cuz of the whole broken control room glass thing...

I kept thinking it was the Mars Volta ... I met their former bassist, who "quit due to some major label bullshit". And where is their album?

I actually believe him when he says that the band is on "hiatus" and that he's too busy to update the diary.

There was SO MUCH hype about the diary that I refuse to believe that a band that really was Bitchslap would not have made some sly reference to it.
