There's got to be more to it than Liz Phair.

"Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation, and destroy the male sex."

There's lots of music that immasculating, if not exactly misandroist. PJ Harvey's "Dry" comes to mind. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs singing "As a Fuck, Son, You Suck." Stuff like that. Not a lot of men are really bothered by this though, as it's easy to write this off as frustration with a particular man, and not genuine fear-based hatred.

For real wrong-headed man-hating, you'll have to read some books. Search: Andrea Dworkin, Inga Muscio, etc.

PJ Harvey is an interesting example, as she fairly regularly upended some of the male rock clichés and pretty much got away with it (in the sense that no-neck knuckle-draggers never branded her as some kind of feminazi). Think of "Man-Size", "50-Foot Queenie" as well as Kenan's example. Not only that, but she even managed to subvert that strutting male dick obsession with "Sheela-na-gig".

And then there's Cat Power's cover of "Satisfaction" which is a tour de force of subversion.

But none of these examples could be called misandry. How about Marianne Faithfull ("Why'd Ya Do It?" perhaps?), or even Alanis on Jagged Little Pill? Although even these don't feel all that offensive, just individual expressions of anger/pain/regret, etc.

When women in music get mad, they don't seem to universalize as much as guys.

feminazi

Thanks to The Daily Show, I now prefer the word "vagi-thug."
