I missed on Saturday night in Washington D.C. at the Black Cat club, Loudbomb(Bob Mould with Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty and Fugazi extra percussionist/drummer Jerry Busher). Did any of you see them? How were they? I noticed that Mould has also done a few d.j. nights called Blow Off with Deep Dish cohort, engineer, and electronica/techno remixer Richard Morel(who also had a cd out called Queen of the Highway) at the small DC club the Velvet Lounge. The next one is on June 1st. I wonder if Mould has moved to the nation's capitol?

OK, here's a little recap:
It was getting too expensive to live in NYC. Bob and his partner Kevin packed up and when he toured for 'Modulate', they looked at every stop as a potential place to live, eventually settling on DC.
LoudBomb was originally meant to be a repository for studio-only stuffe--i.e., Bob can't play 'em with acoustic guitar or whatever. If you listen to the LoudBomb CD, 'Long Playing Grooves', there's little-to-no guitar, and you can tell it was pretty much made on a computer, as opposed to 'Modulate', which is something of an inbetween step between that and his previous work. The album--along with a live one from his '98 tour, 'LiveDog 98'--was sold at shows and on the website, for the most part.
Over a year ago, on his website, Bob called Morel's 'Queen Of The Highway' the best record he had heard in ten years.
The two began collaborating under the name Blowoff, which began playing shows at the Velvet Lounge. So new stuff from Morel, LoudBomb, as well as the two together as Blowoff, accompanied DJ material, remixes, etc. Bob was playing some bass live, too.
And now, well, looks like LoudBomb has become even more of a "real" project, with at least one gig featuring the Fugazi drummer folks. Dunno what's next...
