Have Stereophonics failed to top their awesome debut album?

listening now to Word... i'm tempted to state firmly in the affirmative. what happened? for mine, they've released nothing that match the lyrical strength and rocking dynamism of local boy, golfish bowl, sandwiches, bill davey.

as a distant observer from oz, i think jones' ego got the best of him and the world discovered he was, as tim from 'the office' called gareth, a cock.

apologies if this is all a bit old hat.
thoughts folks?

Didn't you hear? Toploader split; Paltridge commited hara kiri.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris use your spell check please, it's spelled 'awful'.

the stereophonics debut is some way short of being 'awesome', but you're right in the sense that they've gotten steadily worse from there. I'd say there are at least 4 good songs on the debut - like "A Thousand Trees" for instance. Kelly being a 'cock' is also another reason for their demise. It even makes "Word Gets Around" seem worse, bearing in mind what a nipple Kelly's been since then.

"Toploader split; Paltridge commited hara kiri."

Wrong. Although the world of music has been depressingly barren post-Toploader, the arrival of new 'Phonics single "Madame Helga" has rejuvenated it. If anyone is going to go on to take over Washbourne's throne, the sensible money is on Kelly Jones.

Cast thy night'ed colour off. the time has come to "dance in the moonlight" once again.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, Stereophonics have become increasingly worse since 'Word..' but at least the new one shows a respectable move away from the acoustics, dirge like crap of 'Just Enough..'
