Apoptygma Berzerk - "Spindizzy"

I fully support house music getting gothy and angsty. This track is a prime example of why; 4-to-the-floor body-rock matched with Basement Jaxx-influenced sound effects filtered through a industrospookometer. Okay, I'm sure that some will hate the singer, but really he's fantastic.

Is this a new album or a song or...? I still only have two albums.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned you goof, you already own this song (track 8 on _Harmonizer_, the one after "Pikachu" where the chorus goes "I feel like I'm flying/Drifting away/Spinning/Floating further away").

Shows you how much I notice song titles sometimes. ;-) "You know, that one song. With beats!"

house getting goth? i dont know about that. Spindizzy is a good enough track, but i prefer Covenant for lite-industrial~

I prefer Covenant as well. Always hated Apop aside from one or three tracks.

Everything I've heard by them has been brilliant (_Harmonizer_, "Paranoia", "Kathy's Song")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Funny, Apoptygma Berzerk always seemed to be very much a hit-and-miss band, with some incredibly good songs (Kathy's Song, Stitch, Backdraft, Burning Heretic, Deep Red, Eclipse) and at least as many unlistenable exercises in the most bland of industro-goth (I need only mention Suffer In Silence).

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like "Suffer In Silence"! That whole "throw-in-a-6/4-bar" thing is classic.

Granted, there are better tracks on _Harmonizer_ ("Spindizzy", "OK Amp Let Me Out", "Unicorn", "Detroit Tickets", "Rollergirl", "Until The End Of The World", "Pikachu") but I still like it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I just can't get over the horrible, horrible singing. On some tracks he can keep it fairly restrained (his "Dave Gahan mode", like in Kathy's Song), but the "please let me sahffer in saaahaaaylence" chorus is just unbearable.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, I like that part too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh heh : Okay, I'm sure that some will hate the singer, but really he's fantastic.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you mean goth getting housey? Its sort of the other way around ... have you heard his first album? Good lord.

two years pass...
Beborn Beton "The Colour of Love" = proto-Apoptygma/futurepop, like "Paranoia" but less trancey and more '80s

"Kathy's Song" is kicking the shit of me right now.

Come. Lie. Next to me.

my ex-DJ partner turned me onto that song in a big way. i also really like their "shine on" cover, though the two are admittedly pretty different

Somehow I had missed they covered the House of Love's "Shine On" last year.
