i'm waiting for the just blaze mixtapes

minna (minna), Thursday, 29 May 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude "Dead or Alive" fucking makes me twerk a LOT.

Kayne wins.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Kanye seems to stick to more traditional soul and funk samples, Just Blaze tries really hard to cop the Timbaland/Neptunes vibe... though Just Blaze is far from original, I like 'em better. Then again, I fall in love with any producer who uses synth lines that sound like they were jacked from the SNES game "Pilotwings".

Bobby D Gray (bedhead), Thursday, 29 May 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Kanye is surprisingly (given his classic soul rep) good at sped-up vocal stuff. Leastways, there's a lot of it on Get Well Soon. He even makes Queen work! Just goes to show, if you speed it up and loop the right bit, anything can sound good.

Ben Williams, Thursday, 29 May 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

every time i hear someone say "just blaze" at the beginning of a track, i know i'm in for a treat

kayne is way more hit'n'miss

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i agree, kanye is v consistent but just blaze's peaks and troughs (like that neps ripoff fabulous beat; actually maybe this one for sterl's sadly neglected 'so formalist it's punk' thread. nah) are more exciting

i think kanye might lose some ground faffing around with his 'college dropout' lp

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

however; the breaker = kanye's totally great on the mic!!

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

this is a tough one. Kanye gets the edge in my book 'cause a few of
J-Bleezy's beats on Freeway's and especially Erick Sermon's new album were kind of unoriginal. But they're both geniuses. Big ups to those guys for giving Jay-Z and his labelmates a defined sound and style.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Ryan to thread!

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

they're both great but Kanye is my hero. Blaze occasionally throws a serious banger, but the way Kanye puts together beats makes my jaw drop nearly every time.

Get Well Soon is great but I don't have I'm Good yet, looks amazing, though. also, the instrumentals mixtape Behind The Beats is addictive.

my top 10 Kanye beats:

1. Scarface, Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel - Guess Who's Back
2. Talib Kweli - Get By
3. Jay-Z, Scarface, Beanie - This Can't Be Life
4. Freeway and Twista - Show Go On
5. Trina and Ludacris - B R Right
6. Jay-Z - Heart of the City
7. State Property - Got Nowhere
8. Kanye West and John Stephens - Home
9. Jay-Z, Twista, Killer Mike and Big Boi - Poppin' Tags
10. Talib Kweli - Good To You

my top 10 Blaze beats:

1. Jay-Z - U Don't Know
2. Cam'ron - Oh Boy
3. Freeway and Peedi Crakk - Flipsides AKA Cactus Juice
4. Joe Budden - Pump It Up
5. State Property - Roc The Mic
6. Jay-Z - Hovi Baby
7. Faith Evans - Burnin' Up remix
8. Freeway, Jay-Z, Beanie - What We Do
9. the Diplomats - I Really Mean It
10. Jay-Z and Beanie - Streets is Talking

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah he'll never top 'guess who's back'. one of the best b-sides ever!

personally i think your blaze list whips the kanye one

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 29 May 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

except you missed 'thru the wire'

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 29 May 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going beat for beat..."Thru the Wire" is a good song, but more for the lyrics and the story..."Guess Who's Back" is godlike, though...

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 29 May 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

dude 'thru the wire' is a hot beat! (if you're mf doom)

Chip Morningstar (bob), Thursday, 29 May 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn that beyonce+Jay-Z song is goood!

Dan I., Friday, 30 May 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

But that ole Jay-Z+beyonce song kinda sucked.

Dan I., Friday, 30 May 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Minna where the fuck did you get those mixtapes in Australia???

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 30 May 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't tim, i tried but i just ended up getting them online. they still work out pretty cheap even with postage and everything, i pay on average less than $20 (eg. you can get 'i'm good' @ mixtapekings.com for us$7 +p&h).however, beware... i got 'get well soon' on ebay cheap and it turned out to be a bootleg which was kind of annoying, the tunes are still good but the 2 second gap between tracks is not, and the sound quality sux a bit. i can make copies for you of what i already have! (i just wouldnt recommend my copy of get well soon)

minna (minna), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(also, they are on slsk)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
so what's the most recent college dropout release date?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

anybody? is it out already?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Thursday, 21 August 2003 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Spring '04, last I heard. Pushed back again.

JS Williams (js williams), Thursday, 21 August 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
maybe he's adding more tracks to his vocals

brains (cerybut), Friday, 17 October 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the latest release date is January 27. granted, it's been delayed dozen times for the past year and a half, but I'm inclined to believe it'll actually drop somewhere around there this time...the Roc always ends up putting so much energy into launching Jay albums in the 4th quarter of the year that they end up saving stuff for the first quarter of the next year. plus the "Through The Wire" video is getting some play and the hype machine is rolling so they'd be stupid to keep it off the shelves another year.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Al, what's the video like?

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It's pretty cool but gets a little boring. It sort of zooms around a bulletin board of polaroid shots, zooming in on each for brief "action" scenes. I think it's up on launch.yahoo.com.

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

just blaze sitting on his arse reviewing videogames for xxl has given him the edge over kanye now i feel

prima fassy (bob), Saturday, 18 October 2003 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

also dash vs jay rocafella release date conspiracymongering is WAY too fun! i like how young gunz (whose lp gets released b4 kanye's) are now real hiphoppers #1 bete noir, "they're not even gonna release rell's album now!"

i'm gutted at having to wait so long for killa's lp tho

prima fassy (bob), Saturday, 18 October 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

poor Rell. I'm surprised he's even still with the Roc, he's been on the sidelines for at least 5 fuckin' years.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 18 October 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

who needs rell when there's HELL RELL!

prima fassy (bob), Saturday, 18 October 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

kanye west and just blaze are a lil too different to be able to pick one of them. kanye west is amazing with his piano and violins. but just blaze kicks the shit out of a bass line. let's not forget about the other producers under indirect roc-a-fella production. the heatmakerz. they did "I'm ready, dipset anthem, MY LOVE". alot of their beats i sometimes mistake for kanye or just blaze. over all timbaland is the best producer, just listen to bubba sparxxx new cd. timbo can give every artist their own sound under his production. when it's all set and done, kanye west will be king. listen to beats like "philly n!ggaz, heavy hitters, poppin tags" those beats dont sound like anything else out there. so put me down for kanye west.

IcebergBeats, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i would've gone just bleezy on this one...until blueprint 2 dropped...i think it was his godawful, neck-freezing 'hovi baby' beat that did it.
and i like kanye's MCing...

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Heatmakerz, but if we're gonna talk slept on Roc producers, then it has to be Bink! dude did some of the best beats on The Blueprint, Philadelphia Freeway, and The Dynasty, including the godlike "1-900-Hustler", which arguably jump-started the whole splashy horn riff style Roc sound that Just Blaze ran with. I love Kanye and Blaze, but why Bink! hasn't gotten as much shine I have no idea.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Word on Bink. "All My Life" from the Freeway album alone does it for me. Anyone remember that one U-God single he did?

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

pleez niggas!!!!!they both can lick the sweat of my balls...its all bout Mhz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

marvin gaye, Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Just Blaze, Kanye and lot of them are all ill producers. But u must admire Kanye's through the wire and i am not talking about beat quality. Itend to focus more on lyrics than beats. Also J.Bl AND kANYE'S STYLES ARE DIFF

AYO AL, Friday, 31 October 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo.....I'm from Jersey and I knew Just since he was a DJ at Skater's World. Just Bleezey is as nice an emcee as a producer...and if you listen to some of the scratching he does on Blueprint 2 and Dynasty, then you can understand why I call him one of the most underrated DJ's out!! He's flat out nice....rhyming, cutting, producing....and look out for his brother DJ Poun, who makes some of the illest unsigned beats....to hear a sample of Poun's beats, hit me up at realplayazunit1@aol.com. I'm in a group called RPU and he makes most of our beats (along with NC monster Saki).

Tu, Friday, 31 October 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo I'm taking my boy Kanyeezy all the way. He's just the illest. Just blaze does have heat, but Kanye is that nigga. I'm a Chi- town boy though so I'm partial. They didn't push his album back though it's coming in late January, and of course it will be FIRE!!!
The HeatMakerz is ill too, though

Yungprohit, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Kanye's beat for "In Cold Blood" is ridiculous.
If you like his other stuff for Scarface, this shit is just whoa.

ddrake, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

kanye is nice all the way nobody is hotte. at first i wasn't feeling him cause i like originallity and sampling i thought wasn't that. it wasn't til i started producing myself and listening to the music more that i understood how difficult sampling is. any dude can hit a few keys on a keyboard a couple bars for a melody. it takes a true musician to re-craft a classic into a totally different and better song. DETROIT HOLLA D. KNOTT WHITE COLLAR!!!!!!!!!!

Deontae Knottt, Friday, 7 November 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

All I have to say is "Get By," "Never Change," "Guess whos back,"
"Through the Wire," "Slow Jam," "Never Let Me Down," "Brown Sugar." Check all the mixtapes with Consequence, and others. Kanye West is the sickest producer out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention his flow. Strictly for the common man who got his head on straight "sometimes!"
Take Dr. Dre, Premo, Jay Z, Talib Kweli, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and the ordinary whiteman and you have KANYE WEST!!!!!!!!!!

marlo white, Thursday, 13 November 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the ordinary whiteman

no wonder ILM likes him so much

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 13 November 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Kanye Kanye Kanye all I have to say is listen to that song home, that shit is the illest metaphor since I used to love her and the beat is hotter than crack on the stove. Chi-town I love u

dt, Thursday, 13 November 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

kayne west has the baddest of mixtapes you could ever hear.. he the most intelligent rapper!!! i never heard anything like kayne west hope you as a good well life love you lots...

Toni Larvie, Monday, 5 April 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Gotta be Kanye by the slimmest of margins...I love Just Blaze...That "December 4" song...I can just nod my head the whole day just listening to that shit...But Kanye has put out one of the best albums this year..."Workout Plan" joint is sick off the College Dropout...I think Just Blaze would win if he came out with a compilation cd like the Neptunes did with "Clones"...But Kanye wins, just cuz he has an album...I just want a CD with new Just-Blaze shit...

Stan Bolo, Tuesday, 6 April 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

luv lady kat.

katrina otabor AKA LADY KAT. (katrina otabor AKA LADY KAT.), Friday, 16 April 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't we talkin about beats here?

Blaze murdered Memphis Bleek's M.A.D.E CD, he had produced Pump it up, Everything's A Go, "Just Blaze", Flipside, Alright, and R.O.C. He's done almost everyone in the "Roc-A-Fella" label. He's done others like Joe Budden, and Rah Digga.

Kanye is hot, but those samples of old songs is gettin kinda tired. His CD is hot no doubt, but Just Blaze has those beats where you want to get hype sometimes. Kanye had "The New Workout Plan" on his CD that was the only song where it wanted to get me hyped up.

I'm startng to think, you just can't even compare Blaze and Kanye because you just can't compare their beats. I could see if it was somthin like Just Blaze vs. Timberland or the Neptunes, but not Kanye.

ludacris06, Friday, 16 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Blaze has alot of tracks done on the Bleprint 2 as well..They are just flat out SICK!

ludacris06, Friday, 16 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Every one must go to hiphopgame.com and download gravy's can't nobody love you like you do produced by kanye and jin i gotta love and tell if just is better ok? i love both but kanye's beats give a certain vibe off ya kno?

prety rikkey, Friday, 16 April 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

ive been familiar with kanye's work since the mad rapper(yukkie poo besides "ghetto" by the mad rapper) and i have seen his beat git better and better just has been hot but he has not increased in heat at all... hovi baby and i really mean r the only two trakks dat r overly hot....everything else is jus and overnight celebrity song. Also, the thing is with kanye ...yes he takes ol songs and samples them (overnight celibrity) i kno more than 3 other artists that have stolen that song ...you git whut im gittin at ....its not whut he duz its how he duz it.

pretty rikkey, Friday, 16 April 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i agree.theres nothin more 2 b sed u sed it all.
holla.

katrina otabor AKA LADY KAT. (katrina otabor AKA LADY KAT.), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

kanye is just a pop star.....took old chunes, sped em up and looped it....not original, more like wack.....yall kno the pioneer of that.. Prince Rakeem aka The RZA.....bun the ROC, they rich but they ain't real....

Kanye is cool Jus is cool. If you wanna base these producers on a level of originality they both suck. All the samples and stuff is cool, but isn't music about being creative. Sorry they just don't show me anything I haven't heard. Until these guys reach a Quincy Jones, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam&Terry Lewis,Dj Premier, they are just a couple of beatmakers.

Dun Deal, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Just for all the Kayne West fans out there....KAYNE WEST'S ALBUM 'COLLEGE DROPOUT' is out on shelf this week in New Zealand, and man does it sucks being the last people to hear it. Anyways, i know the albums gonna go off so big ups to the supporters!

Thanks Mitch, of those I've still yet to hear "Shorty" and "Niggarican" but I will be searching shortly.

Incidentally, I've decided that Kanye wins the contest purely on the basis of the "Girls Girls Girls" remix which is secretly the best track on The Blueprint obv.

They are both nice producers, but Kanye is the best overall, period. Kanye is nice as a rappper/producer. Just Blaze is nice too. I think the producer of the year for the Source awards is going to be Kanye. He produced many songs this year such as Overnight Celebrity, Brandy's new song, Dilated People's and many more. Kanye is the best.

Just blaze and Kayne West are both the best in the game. I mean, they gave us The Blueprint, which is the greatest album of all time. I cant hate on other producers like Bink,Timbo, and eminem, but Just Blaze and Kayne killed it.

PS. Stop hating on westcoast music, it's the next up!!!!

My personal favorite is Just Blaze but kanye is versatile as well.
Heatmakerz is are also slept on because most of their beats are some of the best sampled beats around like "My Love" wit Juelz and Freeway and I'm ready with the dipset and also juelz's whole album was fire but on the other hand Freeway's album which was bombarded with just blazes masterpieces was under rated. So JUST BLAZE remains the hottest around. Holla at me
