OH HOLY JESUS (or: yes, bootlegs still exist)

Go Home Productions has somehow concocted a pseudo-kinda-mashup of Shannon's "Let the Music Play" and a small handful of '68-'69 vintage Stones songs (mostly "Gimme Shelter", with "Sympathy For the Devil" and "Honky Tonk Women" popping up for break purposes here and there). It is fucking divine. That is all.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

don't tease me nate!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Patrinising.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

neener neener neener, blount's a donkey wiener*

(wait, did I just use the acceptable ethnic variant spelling?)

*actually he's not

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Blount is to ILM what Al Green is to the Bible.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Now there's got to be a funny way to misconstrue that statement.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Al Green throw a hissyfit and hold it against you if you make fun of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I haveta say alot of the Go Home stuff has left me a little underwhelmed (ha - I've heard three: the pixies-run dmc one, the eminem-wings one, and the j. lo-wings one, and only really liked the last one). still I'm downloading this (and a couple of other right now)

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

don't talk shit about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, they do some good in the community

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe the metaphor holds up. Al Green's best when he's not being boringly reverent.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 29 May 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

try harder miccio, there's blender bylines in them thar hills!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ooooh, this is VERY nice, the chorus works especially well

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

anybody who hasn't checked out "justin likes blondes" yet should do so now also

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

is that mr. mojo risin at the beginning?

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 May 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 30 May 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

goldarnit, I need to get to a computer with sound! Stat!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 30 May 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, James, I guess Tawana Brawley was *good* for the community?

Davlo (Davlo), Friday, 30 May 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

41 shots davlo

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 30 May 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

41 shots? I don't know what that refers to. Can you explain?

Davlo (Davlo), Friday, 30 May 2003 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask Springsteen

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Diallo?

David A. (Davant), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Straight from a little ditty I wrote Way Back When:

Amadou Diallo,
41 shots straight to the heart of the matter

(That came from the chorus. I'm serious. Now you know why I don't do that anymore.)

Anyway, that should tell you a bit more.

(To be fairer, Amadou Diallo was an immigrant [African or Haitian -- I can't remember which one] in NYC who was shot 41 times by the local coppers. He was unarmed and posed no thread to the police. I kid you not.)

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 30 May 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Go Home Productions is scheduled to play a 30 minute mix on XFM tonight (from around 9pm i think) - you will be able to hear it online at www.xfm.co.uk

his bootlegs are cool - 'Ray Of Gob' is currently one of his more popular ones - he tends to specialise in using older material (rock n' roll, punk etc.) - he's probably got more airplay on XFM than any oher bootlegger other than Osymyso and Freelance Hellraiser which is odd cos as good as the stuff is, its no better than at least 20 other bootleggers out there

stevem (blueski), Friday, 30 May 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah he's kind of hit or miss, with the best ones ('shannon stone', 'justin likes blondes', 'ray of gob' - the first verse works SOOOO well with 'pretty vacant') being more, um, remixes than bootlegs somehow. 'shannon stone' really does feel like 'push it/no fun' apres le deluge.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 30 May 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Diallo - sorry, I remember that. It was just the details that I was unclear on. Yes, what happened to Diallo was an outrage and condemnable. However, what happened to him has nothing to do with the Tawana Brawley incident and while Sharpton may have been active in some legitimate activities to benefit the community, these good deeds don't by any means erase the fact that he was involved in perpetrating a gross act of hatred and racism against the white community.

Think about it this way: if the colors of those involved in the Brawley incident were reversed and she was a white child and the accusations pointed at black men, would anyone have allowed this fraud to be forgotten or forgiven? Hatred and racism are not restricted to white people only. Do I need to remind us of *Reverend* Jackson's remark about Hymie Town?

Davlo (Davlo), Friday, 30 May 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone MUST get GHP's "Sexual High" (Sexual Healing vs High & Dry) and "The Weather Episode" (Crowded House vs Dre, Snoop & Nate).

Nick H, Friday, 30 May 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

the irony is I was using Sharpton and Jackson only in a metaphorical sense (I probably should have just asked why ILM's Al Green reacted to my silly Overacademic Bullshit thread like it was a pot of hot grits, inspiring him to forsake all earthly vices).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 30 May 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Do I need to remind us of *Reverend* Jackson's remark about Hymie Town?

"Don't get me down/Hymie Town"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 30 May 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

'Chuck Eddy, why hast thou forsaken me?' - keep auditioning for bylines Anthony, Blender pays well (better than all those overacademic rags you never bothered to actually name). and please stop whining.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 31 May 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

and if you think I didn't know you using sharpton and jesse 'metaphorically' (who's overacademic now?) you're even dumber than you look.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 31 May 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

actually I knew you did, but I don't think others did. And how would you know how dumb I look?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 May 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

duh, I watched the Penn State-Michigan game on HDTV

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 31 May 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

but I had my helmet on!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 May 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

jermaine (jnoble), Thursday, 31 March 2005 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)
