I need "jungle" music for kids - suggestions?

Any suggestions about songs or pieces of music that sound like something from the jungle? This is for a kids art project and it should be stuff that's fairly "fun" and kid-sy, but I want to avoid Disney songs (like the plague). Thanks for any suggestions!

The first tune on Headhunters by Herbie Hancock would be extremely good for this, I think. Umm... can't remember what it's called right away though...

"Stranded In The Jungle"-either the Cadets or the New York Dolls (both are great)

Hawaian War Chant by Spike Jones (Musical Depreciation Revue) maybe be a bit too Polynesian, but it could pass for the jungle.

definitely:
"Tarzan Boy" -- Baltimora
"Tarzan and Jane" -- Toy Box
"Get Your Monkeys Out" -- Kix

maybe:
"Burundi Black" -- Burundi Black
"Monkey Man" -- The Specials
"Ape Call" -- Nervous Norvus
"Monkey Business" -- Starz
"Rock and Roll Part 2" -- Gary Glitter (unless you want to boycott him for pedophilia reasons)
"Bungle in the Jungle" -- Jethro Tull (starts with a lion roaring)
"King Kong" - Jimmy Castor Bunch
"Jamma on da Savannah" or "Sisterhood of Africa" - Midi Maxi & Efti
"Elephant Pao Pao" -- Shonen Knife
"Jungle Boy" or "Orang-Outang" (or soemthing else off their first album, which was called *See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah, City All Over! Go Ape Crazy!*) -- Bow Wow Wow
"In the Rainforest Approaching a Forest Camp" -- Mbuti Pygmies of the Ituri Rainforest

Hahahaha, yes Tarzan And Jane has to be there.

Deep in the jungle,
in the land of adventure, lives Tarzan

Oo-ee-oo-ee...
I am Jane, and I love to ride an elephant

My name is Tarzan, I am Jungle-man
The tree-top swinger from jungle-land
Come, baby come,
I will take you for a swing
Let's go, honey, I'm tinkeling

Tarzan is handsome, Tarzan is strong
He's really cute, and his hair is long
Tarzan is handsome, Tarzan is strong
So listen to the Jungle-song:

Oo-ee-oo-ee...
I am Tarzan from Jungle, you can be my friend
Oo-ee-oo-ee...
I am Jane, and I love to ride an elephant

When you touch me, I feel funny
I feel it too, when you're touching me
Come to my tree-house, to my party
Yes, I'll go if you carry me

Go Cheetah, get banana
Hey monkey, get funky
When I am dancing, I feel funky
Why do you keep ignoring me?
Tarzan is here, come, kiss me, baby
Oochie coochie kiss me tenderly

And so they got funky,
but will Tarzan have Jane?
Stay tuned to find out!

If your kids are cool with swear words, then King Kong's Kingdom of Kong is good for "Funky Monkey" and the title track, and a few others probably. I lent my copy (along with Me Hungry)to a dude like a year ago. And haven't seen it since. Goddamn.

"Tiger Man" Rufus Thomas

And what the heck, here's Kix (and yes, there are "jungle" sounds in it, though they probably learned about how jungles sound by listening to "Monkey Man" by the Rolling Stones!):

Baby I'm in the jungle
In the danger zone
Bit by a tiger on my crazy bone
A giraffe in a neck tie
Breathing down my neck
Gonna get my monkey's
That's what they get
Hey
Get your monkey's out
You gotta let your monkey's out
There ain't no doubt
You gotta let your monkey's out
You'd be swinging like Tarzan
Swinging off the vine
I've been falling in a swampland
On a porcupine
Sometimes it's like flying high in the sky
Come and get my monkey's out
That's what they said
Get your monkey's out
You gotta let your monkey's out
There ain't no doubt
You gotta let your monkey's out
I've been living in a jungle
Wild animals stalking me
When I go let 'em out and throw away the key
Just makes me feel hungry
It makes me feel funky
Gonna get out my monkey
Gonna get out my monkey
Gonna get out my monkey
1 2 3 4 Let go
You gotta go
I said hey hey hey
What I say
Hey you You gotta let your (hey hey hey)
Let go let go
Let your let your monkey out
Ya gotta let your let your monkey out

"Jungle Rock" by the Weirdos

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

which is a cover, it appears! Trouser Press reports the original is by one Hank Mizzel, recorded in the 1950s; the Weirdos' version is kind of gruffly menacing rockabilly but so over the top that ultimately it's hilriously goofy. would be good for a huge gorilla that lumbers into our heroes' encampment, swinging his arms and beating his chest but who turns out to just want to rough-house around and play piggy-back

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I second Martin Denny. The classic one to go for is "Quiet Village."

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, also: "Isobel," by Bjork.

Thanks, these all (most- Slits, yeah right) are great suggestions. More?
