The Bluebells - "Syracuse University"

So I just received a vinyl copy of the Bluebells' Sister, which I ordered because I wanted this song "Syracuse University." I remember hearing this catchy pop song on the radio right after I left that school. But what the hell is it referring to? And why are five Scottish blokes singing about it?

"Syracuse University
They've Got Nothing to Say
Say it Now or Hold Your Tongue
I don't Mind, That's What I Find

Syracuse University
In the Land of the Free
Twilight Gleams in the Blink of an Eye
They Don't Know But They'll Shoot to Kill Anyway"

Maybe someone got killed during a campus war protest (certainly before I arrived)? There are also references to knives being sharpened on stone, and greed.
Anyone know?

Thanks for the reminder - I've always liked that song. Must dig out the album.

But sorry, can't help you.

Maybe sour grapes after a bad gig there?
