I'm talking typical classic songs that everyone knows the words to! 500 miles, Last Train out of Sydney, Bed of Roses, Eye of the Tiger, Tiny Dancer, Some people I know, You're so vain, Holy Grail, *Crowded House* etc. I'm australian keep in mind!!!!! But anything goes. This is just for a huge compilation I'm doing for a friend while in hospital. *thanks*

The only song I can think of that I might actully know ALL the words to is "Love Shack" by the B-52s. Or possibly a Kraftwerk song here and there.

This thread reminds me, I need to dig out those Orb albums...

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 1 June 2003 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not fussed bout knowing ALL the lyrics. Just those classic songs... you know?!

Emma, Sunday, 1 June 2003 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Anything by Burt Bacharach; Way To San Jose, Walk On By, Say A Little Prayer, etcetera...

Any old Motown/Stax classics; Get Ready, Grapevine, Tracks Of My Tears, Green Onions (ha! we all know all these words!)...

And, um, The Beatles.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 1 June 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, think there's been a thread devoted to this?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 June 2003 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I always think I know all the words but without the music to guide me I'll usually end up getting lost.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 June 2003 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't recognise half of these songs. What about:

Rock around the Clock
Star Trekkin'

basically all songs that are played at weddings and student cheese nights.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 1 June 2003 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Living on a Prayer.

'Tommy used to work on the doooooocks....'

Last train out of Sydney? I think you mean Khe Sanh, and it's actually 'the last plane out of sydney's almost gone'....

You're bloody UNAUSTRALIAN mate.

next thing you'll be suggesting we help refugees in need.

Cause baby we'll be
At the drive in
In the old man's Ford
Behind the bushes
Til I'm screamin' for more
Down in the basement
Lock the cellar door
And baby...
Talk dirty to me!

(this one goes out to Jel)

gaz (gaz), Monday, 2 June 2003 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The Beatles would own this thread, but does anyone really know all the words to "Penny Lane"? Something something POURING RAIN, VERY STRANGE...

I don't know if everyone knows the lyrics to Crowded House songs, but I sure do. Sing-along classics, I say.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 2 June 2003 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

despite the fact i don't particularly rate Neil Finn, I am sure I know all the words to "Don't Dream It's Over"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 2 June 2003 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

You're bloody UNAUSTRALIAN mate.

next thing you'll be suggesting we help refugees in need

- Ok, first of all who are you to be judging me and saying I'm fucking UNAUSTRALIAN just because i got the name of a fucking song wrong. Secondly, you have way too much time on your hands if you really feel the need to write shit like that

Emma, Tuesday, 10 June 2003 06:06 (twenty-one years ago)

a) i'm genuinely baffled that you thought dsp was being serious.

b) "you have way too much time on your hands". are people still using this phrase? next you'll be telling us we're just jealous of something or other

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

jim, you're just jealous that I have more time on my hands than you. *looks at clocks tattooed on palms*

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 06:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i would sell my soul for more time on my hands that didn't involve being at work.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

thats bloody unaustralian of you jim.

what?

ok: that's bloody australian of you jim.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I was at a party a few years ago, and the only song that *everyone* knew the words to was "Underwhelmed" by Sloan. I guess that makes it a classic, then? Fuck yah!

kate (kate), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i was always more of a "I am the cancer" sort of fellow

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Matthew was the only person who remembered the first line, though. (And only cause it had his name in it.)

kate (kate), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(I should probably mention that the party was in a Canadian bar. I guess that's pretty unAustralian, too.)
