There's some new tracks floating about, has anyone heard them? I'm v. curious as to what they sound like these days, d'you think they'll sound too refined, their technical prowess making them seem a little aloof?

Whatever, I'm excited - not sure if it's a proper comeback but if it is, it could put all the Luomo hyping into perspective. well i'd like it to.

heard nowt about this would love to hear more about it when you do...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 2 June 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I haven't heard them...but the rumour has been circling for a few weeks at least....from what I gather "Locked On" is rereleasing some classics (don't know what)....

I am completely buzzed about this....words cannot describe how much I love dem 2

3 or 4 tracks about, 'luv is hard', 'luv is hard dub', 'glamma' and one other that i forget

they sounded fun to me, not sticky BOING but still

out soon on new york soundclash records

Chip Morningstar (bob), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a new remix of jody lei by bump n flex out too

Chip Morningstar (bob), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

jody lei remix is pants though - there's a club mix which is plucky "crazy love" type strings and soppy vocal as he channels mj cole circa 2000 and a dub which is sort of soca-y but really just sounds weak and old at this point; his mis-teeq remix from year or so ago is much much better.

dem 2 are much more interesting now that the Junior Boys have come out, aren't they? considering the JBs take all the dem 2 production tics to an extreme; they're not on the far end anymore.

Listening to the real far out old Dem 2 tracks like "Baby (Dub)", you can hear the future mapped out for dubstep, Junior Boys *and* the more psycho 8-bar. Their remix of "Diretrix" was like totally Wiley-style angular snare-snaps.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"directrix" is possibly the most fitful, angular sounding thing i have ever heard...i have no idea how you'd dance to it

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim,

I'm really curious about this...
when you talk about the "baby (dub)" are you talking about the remix to baby(you're so sexy) that came out on locked on as a proper release or are you talking about the 'New Skool Mix' that came out on a white label...

Its weird....barely anybody has ever heard the "new skool mix" and its in my opinion the best thing they ever did...in fact I think its one of the best trax ever written....and its completely unknown/forgotten

IT HAS TO BE RERELEASED.....I Hope somebody with influence is listening

geeg, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 04:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm talking about the Locked On version, I think (the one that was on Pure Silk: The Third Dimension (a great mix incidentally, notable also for housing the best versions of "Find The Path" and "Buddy X 99"). Would love to hear the New Skool Mix.

BTW I lost my mp3 of "Diretrix" in the great hard drive failure of 02 and would greatly appreciate a replacement. You're right from what I remember Jess - it was like the most anti-danceable moment in garage ever.

BTW 2 - anyone else heard the new MJ Cole album? I don't know why i'm silly enough to be disappointed by the absolute lack of progression (3 soca tracks, a speed garage track, an R&B track and otherwise it's basically Sincere without the dark bits) but I am.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't there two remixes of that Directrix track? one was almost impossible to mix into other records, it just found so many spaces to fit in beats. the other one's got a pure speed garage b-line and vox.

I don't think we need MJ Cole now we've got Sticky.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah we don't need Cole *at all* but I was hoping for something *mildly* engaging.

sad i kinda have no place in the firmament for that cos it really really is way better than it has any right to still be

r|t|c, Sunday, 3 April 2011 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

It is quite good and for my money sounds a hell of a lot more interesting than a lot of the "future garage" stuff going on right now. This actually sounds a bit "ruff", even.

matt damon & the jb's (the anephric project), Sunday, 3 April 2011 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

totally agree

r|t|c, Sunday, 3 April 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

controversial opinions all up in this thread.

Tim F, Sunday, 3 April 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

Just as an example, the L2S stuff sounds so polite and dull, honestly. As weird as it may be to hear something "new" like this now (maybe I'm alone), I hope this is a sign of things to come.

matt damon & the jb's (the anephric project), Monday, 4 April 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

Oh no I completely agree. I more meant: I wonder if anyone would be silly enough to say "oh no, Whistla et al are much better than this..."

Tim F, Monday, 4 April 2011 00:58 (fourteen years ago)
