Roman (Roman), Monday, 2 June 2003 12:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hot Snakes wipes the floor with Hot Hot Heat's whiny little butts.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

For some odd reason, some of the things on the radio I have been hearing by HHH on the radio sound a little like HS though I do think the HS are better.

Roman (Roman), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh please. Hot Snakes.

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Not even close. Hot Hot Heat Vs a blade of grass would be more level.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

Did BurmaKitty get yr ears as part of the separation agreement?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Zing!

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

is there really any question? Hot Snakes destroy most bands in their sleep, let alone pansy-as wannabes like the hot hot heats...

tinobeat (tinobeat), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

The responses here have reaffirmed my faith in ILM.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

No, they aren't good anymore from all the nagging and Foo Fighter/Nirvana spinning in the condo.

Roman (Roman), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

Geir to thread

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 2 June 2003 18:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

I wanna hear more Hot Hot Heat, though what I've heard isn't as good as Hot Snakes. But the song that ends their Knock Knock Knock EP (I think it's called "More For Show") sounds like Wang Chung's "Dance Hall Days!"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 June 2003 22:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

hot snakes.

hot hot heat makes interpol look good.

next.

Hot Hot Heat vs. the 1st Hot Snakes album...no contest! The winner and world champ is Hot Snakes.

Hot Hot Heat vs. the 2nd Hot Snakes album...it could be debated...

Paul Cox (paul cox), Monday, 2 June 2003 23:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

What the fuck is so special about the Hot Snakes?!!?

David Allen, Monday, 2 June 2003 23:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

no one from hot hot heat was ever in drive like jehu

(the rftc connection might take away those points, however)

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 2 June 2003 23:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

I prefer Suicide Invoice to Automatic Midnight.

I "knew" Hot Snakes would triumph over Hot Hot Heat but little did I know HHH was disliked as much as Dave Matthews!

Roman (Roman), Monday, 2 June 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

What's special about Hot Snakes, Dave??? Do you have ears? Did you ever listen to Jehu? Do you like guitar lines that flirt w/ each other? Do you like really fucking subtle melodies? Do you like sparse beats that make ya wanna dance?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hot Hot Heat makes me wanna punch Newbury Comics employees, not dance, thanks.

My word! Can you tell me something that would keep from punching and kicking one of those louts?

Robyn Bytchcock (Robyn Bytchcock), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

used Boredoms CDs for "wicked cheap"

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Do you like guitar lines that flirt w/ each other? "

Do I have to pretend that actually means something?

David Allen, Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

sure, you could pretend that. but it might also imply that either a)you can't read, b)you have never heard music or c) all of the above.

Bosse-De-Nage (Bosse-De-Nage), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Or D) It's retarded hyperbole.

David Allen, Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

is there any other kind?

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

Differently abled hyperbole.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

the point isnt if the statement made by yancy is true or not, it is that what he is saying is understandable. sure it might be retarded, but it's also expresses what it means clearly.

Bosse-De-Nage (Bosse-De-Nage), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 01:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

there's an unreleased hot snakes track coming out on a swami label compilation that should be available for cheap soon.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

i was sposed to get my copy of the comp a few weeks ago and it never arrived!!! swami don't wub me no-mo.

hey david, why don't you turn these piercing questions into a new column, huh?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

would it kill you to buy a record for once yanc3 (i tease i tease!)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think i hate guitar lines that flirt with each other and subtle melodies cuz hot snakes are just fu-fucking-gazi

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

jiggawuh? i don't hear hot snakes = fugazi at all... maybe a song like "no surprises" from end hits or "the argument" could qualify, but most of the hot snakes sound is implied violence that ends up as reluctant ennui. it's kinda like gang of four's second record, in that it's all tension that builds and builds and builds but it's all just a cocktease cuz there's no release.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

sounds like more of the same ol prog-indie slint/fugazi wankery to me. Yes had their moments too.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

yes had more than moments! shit, i even like some wakeman solo records! but where does the prog element come into play with fugazi?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

i hear the wipers "over the edge" (album/song) more than fugazi and or yes (you are your record collection).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

I wish! I love "over the edge" (song & movie!). anyway, obv it's a taste thing.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hot Snakes are ALL about the Wipers. dee-yuh.
