From the moment that I first heard "Gluon," and especially the earlier single, "You Are My Music"... I knew that I had the spirit of a Japanese schoolgirl dancing fervently in my soul.

actually, i don't think i've heard "Gluon." "You Are My Music" i'm actually not overly fond of either---in fact, it was only after i fell in love with Hi-Posi via other means that i went back and realised that yes, there'd been Hi-Posi on that Sushi 4004 comp that Bungalow had put out and which i'd picked up on a whim quite some time ago. it's grown on me since, but it's still kind of a low point to what i've heard of hers.

my particular problem is, a friend of mine made me a disc full of all sorts of Hi-Posi (before we had any inkling of anything getting released stateside, bar the compilation mentioned above). however, she didn't put any track listings on it. so i've got a CD full of wonderful stuff that i HAVE to track down, and bar the insanely trippy cover of "Video Killed The Radio Star" that's on it, i have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER of any of the other track titles.

it's quite maddening. i mean, i've already determined that i probably need to try to track down everything this woman has ever done. i have seriously never before had the experience of listening to something and going, "OH MY GOD THAT'S THE MUSIC I HEAR IN MY HEAD! damn, someone did it first!!" as i have with Hi-Posi. not everything, but a good chunk of what's on this CD.

and i will eventually track it all down---i just wish i knew where to start! song titles would be nice to give other people, as well. share the love and all that. :)

(and actually, now i'm hearing Lolita No. 18's cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star" in my head. oho, if only it weren't at home. what is it with this song that inspires particularly wacked out cover versions? XD)

Tokyo Record Hunting Service.

Miho is married to Shindo, the genius graphic designer responsible (with his company Contemporary Production) for many of Shibuya-kei's best record sleeves. They both use the same orange hair dye, so when you meet them it's quite an odd effect. She looks young and orange, and he looks old and orange.

Sounds like they're the Bo and John Derek of Shibuya-kei. :)

i love hi-posi. the View of Human Nature as Fundamentally Good album is the kind of bonkers pachinko pop i incessantly crave. i lended my friend a copy and now he is obsessed with 8-bit samurai girls colliding into airplanes and stuff like that.

Momus: didn't know she was married to Shindo, but i did know the other stuff. that's pretty entertaining, the similar chapatsu effect on both. XD and THANK YOU for the Tokyorecohan link. dangerous, particularly since they accept PayPal!

Honda: "bonkers pachinko pop" has got to be the best description i've read of Hi-Posi. :)
