I'm just fucking fuming as it's beneath immature really - hey James, you've not got much of an education have you? you know, among the tens of thousands of portmanteau Spices that were proposed during the Epoque du Spice, I don't think "Cunting Spice" ever got the mention she so clearly deserved

fake addresses (or at least a "spare" one that can be trivially removed if it gets spammed) are a good thing.
If I get heavily spammed, the l.custos@att.net will just disappear, and it makes no difference at all to me.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

also one thing about spam I don't get is: do they work? cuz I've responded 'sounds good. where do I sign up?' three times to the nigerian finance minister one and gotten no response, sales-pitch, bubkes.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

bleh.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Blount was the one encouraging this, I'm holding him responsible, and anyone else who has defended this.

Calz (Calz), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

lemme break it down for you: no one here has anything to do with the spam you get.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

send me the spam and stop being such a wimp!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Custos, if you're going to do Bugs, do it with a picture, please.

jm (jtm), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

My employer will hold you all responsible for my loss of productivity.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

meanwhile (if I'm gonna 'encourage' this, I might as well actually encourage this): everybody send your most creative spam to the address you can find by either clicking the hyper-diaper 'MAGIC!' above or searching 'Calum Robert' in dem big ol' ilx archives. then Calum can send it on to me and I'll post the best ones in a Thanksgiving Special to be hosted by Dave Coulier and Alison Moyet. Hop to it kids!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohh, jeez! I honestly didn't mean to flash my meat on this forum.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

only neat creative spam: bizarre international intrigue cloak and dagger pyramid schemes, political rants, topical porn (ie. iraq porn), inspirational glurge, anthing anti-french, etc. no need for the boring stuff: lose weight, grow your cock, make money from home by licking envelopes crap. calum feel free to forward all your spam to me.

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

We can't ban someone without a fixed IP - we have no way of knowing it's the same person. It's simply impossible to do.

As a moderator, can I strongly encourage people not to send or sign up anyone (except themselves!) for spam. It is an annoying thing with easy retaliation and will just be a nuisance to everyone, and will benefit no one. This is the sort of thing that will almost certainly escalate and spread, and while I can't stop anyone doing it, and don't see it as within my authority to censor anyone suggesting it, I think it's a terrible idea.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

aw, too bad we can't get that gold tooth to twinkle like in the videos

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree w/mark s' suggestion, and I would probably also add this to thee shit-can list:

For everyone who finds this spamming business hilarious, I will be happy to sign you up for any spam I know recieve from Mr Blount. Millar - I now have your email account so whatever you want to sign me up to Mr Blount yourself and your little giggling friends will also recieve.

(oh no! now i'll have to moderate my own post!)

[mark s's suggestion that some anonymous posts be deleted was acted on, then deleted itself] [this parenthesis will self-destruct in five seconds]

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Amen to that, I find spam abuse just totally unwarranted and should emphasise that I do not do this to anyone.

Calz (Calz), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Well... Huntingdon Life Sciences don't really count.

Calz (Calz), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

pashmina i think that last one should stay: calum has to take responsibility for thing he's said — if he wants to unthreaten, then he can post

logged-out is anonymous, and unreachable by us [the posts discussed have been deleted]

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

alright i've deleted the posts mark s refers to, and some follow-ups that no longer made sense. maybe i didn't delete the right ones, maybe i've left some in i shouldn't have. i don't really give a fuck at this point though

honestly it wouldn't bother me in the slightest to see this whole thread gone forever

why?

1) cal threatened to kill james blount
2) cal said james blount loves child porn

i think that's enough, don't you guys?

however this problem will keep coming up the more you FEED THE TROLL - GET WITH THE PROGRAM PEEPS

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

If you scroll up and down this thread really quickly, it looks like Mel C fingerfucking that blonde lass on a table.

I'm just saying...

ew!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the thread shd stay bcz :

i. blount has posted all over it saying "bring it on" = constructive approval that they stay
ii. as above, calum has to take responsibility for things he posts and the consequences thereto

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I supposed to change? Are you supposed to change?
Who should be hurt? Who should be blamed?
Am I supposed to change? Are you supposed to change?
Who should be hurt? Who should be ashamed?
Am I supposed to change? Are you supposed to change?
Who should be hurt? Will we remain?
You need a resolution, I need a resolution,
We need a resolution, We have so much confusion.

This thread smells like ILE.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

on the matter of calum's email address being publicly available on ilm:

i. there's lots of them so deleting them will take someone a LONG time
ii. posting them in the first place constitutes voluntary disclosure of information, so we're not required by law to delete them (as far as i can understand the data protection act)
iii. we can choose to delete them, if asked nicely — and we can choose not to
iv. i've looked at a few relevant disclaimers on other BBS, and i might rewire the FAQ this weekend — this isn't a legal thing, it's a courtesy/clarity thing, i think
v. we take no responsibility for bots harvesting email numbers — i know it's a pain, but i strongly advise those who don't like the exposure putting a personal email on ilx gives them, to create a specific one just for the boards (inc.anti-spam spoilers)
vi. it's a real pain in the ass for moderators when regular posters who enjoy being in the centre of troublemaking don't provide SOME sort of contact email — for calming things down, explaining stuff privately etc etc => a courtesy generates a courtesy, basically, and posters who go out of their way to piss away the attentive sympathy of hard-worked moderators are just begging to be disobliged in disputes etc etc

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm shocked (and awed) to admit to agreeing w/mark s on anything besides T. Rex and Donovan but, well, you know, in this case mark s = 100% right.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

does this mean if anyone ever insults calum ever again then he's going to sign them up to loads of spam mailing lists?

rar, feel the wrath!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

would going back and google proofing the e-mail address spambot-proof it also? cuz that might be a good course of action: it reduces the googlespamajam element but allows for other posters who have been personally attacked to respond off-board (which I might suggest is the way to respond to calum from now on - instead of clogging up ilx, feeding the troll, etc., just send him an e-mail)< / bill bennett>.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i could delete all the email addresses i guess, but, you know, i am kind of busy, maybe in a couple of weeks or so when i've got a bit more time or something

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

As I get the same spam in two accounts at the same time I think I can conclude it's some ILM arsehole, especially as the spam mail hilariously involves fat women or homosexual porn.

Nevermind, next spam I get and James and Kate get signed up to it, as they have both said they support this sort of abuse.
I have saved their emails to my accounts.

Calz (Calz), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

you cocktease! - I've yet to get a single spam!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Who are funnier though, Callum- gay men or fat women?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

James you really are a sick bastard. My elderly mother uses this computer you demented little creep and I am so dying to meet you. I am going to kick your ass so hard if we meet, you will regret ever logging onto this forum. Just be grateful I'm very unlikely to meet youin person - you sad little man sitting behind a computer all day signing me up for this shit because you have ample time on your hands and no life to speak off. I've said it once, I'll say it again - you need a life man. Get out.
