TS: The Coral vs. Space

Every so often, the horrendous vocals of Cerys Matthews on 'The Ballad Of Tom Jones' flutter into my head, like they did earlier today. This suddenly brought Tommy Scott into my memory, doing his sort of 'doomed troubadour' schtick. Which got me thinking - isn't that rather like what the Coral do now? And also - Space really tended to get a kicking off the critics, but to my ear their stuff isn't really any more dreadful than the past couple of Coral singles (i.e. Don't Think You're The First and the new one, which I think is called Pass It On...) - yet the Coral is get mad love now. Which, to my mind, is a touch unfair...

Or is it?

The Coral's first album is good and they were crackign live when I saw them. However, the last two single have been < scouser > mingin' < / scouser >

Space had some excellent moments. The Coral have had good moments none.
