always held "Satori" up as the holy grail of psych, but finally heard "Anywhere" and it's actually kinda bad. Not awful, but not at all good. Was VERY surprised ate how much I did NOT enjoy the covers of Black Sabbath and House of the Rising Son, but alas, found them actually quite difficult to get through. Opinions?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Satori. Great article on the FTB here btw.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

roger, we talked about 'em some on that Heavy Riffage - s/d thread. But yeah, I'm with you; I only have Anywhere and Satori. I love the latter, but the former was pretty underwhelming. Nothing wrong with covers per se, they just don't seem to do much with them. I was pretty disappointed as I heard it after having and digging on Satori, which is much more developed. I still wanna hear their last two.

(Duane and Jason, your cds are forthcoming ... I promise!)

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

haha hi there mr. diamond!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Word up! And thanks for that link ... man I've really been neglecting Mr. Cope's site; I wasn't aware he'd written something up on them. Ha, he praises Anywhere too. must go read more...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it's generally acknowledged that _satori_ is THE album you need by FTB. i like _anywhere_, but i'm a drooling fan of covers of sabbath and "21st century schizoid man." i'll try to find my copy of "make up" and say something useful about it later tonight.

i recently downloaded the yuya uchida and the flowers album, and that's pretty enjoyable in a big brother & the holding co. sort of way.

your null fame (yournullfame), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr D. i already got a copy of it. i hope you haven't already burned it??????

i'd still love to hear other stuff that you mentioned.

JasonD (JasonD), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Big fat ugly CLASSIC.

That is all I have to add...

How can you not like a Japanese dude who sings "Black Sabbath" almost exactly like Ozzy does?

anyone know what From Pussies to Death in 10,000 Years is?

team jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, FROM PUSSIES TO DEATH IN 10000 YEARS OF FREAK OUT

team jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 22:10 (nineteen years ago)

yeah it's a bootleg lp of supposedly pre-Anywhere demos

put out by Byron Coley in a limited edition (of course). as with Anywhere, it's mostly covers as I recall (Zep's "How Many More Times" for one)

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i've had that on my want list for two years, even though i heard it wasn't so hot

Made in Japan is only slightly less great than Satori, by the way

and i still don't like Anywhere

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 01:44 (nineteen years ago)

anywhere is pretty spotty, i have to admit.

i think from pussies to death is actually mostly a looong instrumental track with a couple of covers (that zep one and "stone free")... i'll have to dig that out.

If Great Bands Would Reunite That Would Go Against the Wishes of If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport

strgn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

Let's be honest, shall we? This is going to be a pale imitation of the band at their peak, no matter what. What do these reunions do but allow hipster douchebags to pretend they've known about these bands all along (mostly so they can criticize them) and give the aging, long suffering, critically ignored band (Yahowah 13, i'm looking at you) one final, pathetic "Orbison-in-the-Wilburys" last gasp?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

why does that bother you so much?

strgn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

bands who were probably piss-poor in their "glory days" get to play old music and make some money doing that, how is that a problem?

strgn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 01:17 (seventeen years ago)

let's be honest, shall we? you're offended that the unwashed hipsters in your mind will talk about a band that isn't as obscure and special for you anymore. thank god for yahowah 13!

What I don't understand is why everyone on Youtube loves it.

Reatards Unite, Monday, 17 November 2008 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

If you'd snuck into my Mom's Honda Civic circa 1991 and substituted this for her tape of Sting's 'Soul Cages', she never would have known the difference.

WoW... An Online RPG Funeral Gets Ambushed (gnarly sceptre), Monday, 17 November 2008 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

GAH indeed. That is really not what anyone needs to hear. Yikes. The live reunion footage of Satori Part II sounds good, though..

Damn, that sucks. Such a killer voice. He took the witchy tenor doom vocals to a pretty unique place. Rest in Satori

haven't heard it. have you heard this one though? he sings on it - artist is listed as "Kuni Kawacha and Friends," I think almost all of the personnel is Flower Travelin Band related. it's awesome.

no prob

I had a typo in the name, it's Kuni Kawachi. that discogs link has him down as the keyboardist. the album sounds a lot like FTB, maybe a little more funky/soul influenced.
