I'm not planning on changing my current listening habit, which is my 2000 songs playing randomly and a full CD once in a while.

From the audioscrobbler home page:

We plan to have everyones top lists up to date, and the list generator back up to full speed again by monday night. We made some changes today, and it'll take the weekend to re-generate the data in the new format.

We're expecting the new webserver and database server to arrive around wednesday of next week.

Rev. PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie 2), Friday, 14 July 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

God it's even worse than the last makeover!

Is the new trend in web design to make your site as difficult & resource intensive to load as possible even without heavy use of Flash & Java/Javascript?

fandango (fandango), Friday, 14 July 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure they use a fair bit of javascript....

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Friday, 14 July 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

It's a bit of a mixed bag - the new design is definitely overly busy - but once you get used to it, it's quite good.

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 14 July 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

remeber hating on the new AMG?

Rev. PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie 2), Friday, 14 July 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

Welcome to your dashboard. We’ve stocked it full of real-time features and recommendations you might enjoy.

No kidding! It me took a full minute to load the page on a stable DSL connection.

Jena (JenaP), Friday, 14 July 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

I think the minute loading time is more to do with server-stress. I was getting error pages quite frequently. I assume it's finding its feet.
I'm very happy with the new client though, I like having it running alongside Winamp, the level of integration is neat. Hope subscribers aren't getting the delays us peons are getting.

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Friday, 14 July 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

We are. Its slow as shit. As i said on the other audioscrobbler thread i revived earlier today, you can change the page to BLACK. Just click that kinda hidden black icon on the top right of the page to the left of your username.

clodia pulchra (emo by proxy), Saturday, 15 July 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

why don't they have total artists and tracks charts for groups since the group was started, in addition to just week-by-week charts?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Saturday, 15 July 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

There's are two official answers to that, as far as I understand, one philosophical and one technical. The philosophical is that your taste in music today is much more revelant than your taste one or two years ago. And as there any quite a few users with 10,000+ tracks, anything new that they listen to would take a long time to show up in their charts, if ever. Plus purely cumulative charts will always be weighted towards older things.

The other reason is technology -- given te growing number of users and tracks being recorded, they simply haven't been able to come up with a a reasonable way to calculate all the charts based on all tracks ever played. So they've moved to this model.

Holy crap does this work? I've been wondering how to scrobble youtube clips to last.fm for ages.

it doesn't, though, does it? it just gives you a simple (but effective) search based on your charts. hmm.

grimly fiendish, Monday, 4 June 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

(which, of course, is just as well given that you don't actually log in: you just give them yr username. so i could totally bugger up, say, trayce's charts by watching 1,000 bros videos in a row :)
