number of weird al albums owned by jess, aged 14: 5

they both have their moments.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 6 June 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

number of weird al albums owned by jess, aged 25: 6

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i own no weird al albums, actually. never owned any. dead kennedys -- three, counting give me convenience or give me death.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

weird al's albums are oddly consistent for the most part

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

dare to be stupid is probably the pinnacle, but i also have a soft spot for the first one

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

and it's still only you two talking about it ;-) d'oh... guess that observation kinda destroyed its own point...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

on that note the video for amish paradise is classic...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

He got more sophisticated with time I think, but then most of the Jurassic Park themed album was a real low point.

"Addicted to Spuds" was fantastic as was "Daily Star".

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm a fan of neither, but jello is quite a bit lamer by any measure.

dan (dan), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

# of Weird Al songs I like: 1 ("Dare to Be Stupid")
# of Dead Kennedys songs I like: a trillion

However, I feel the necessity to point this entirely on-point observation out in regards to my opinion on this matter.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

not a huge fan of either but I still have a soft spot for Plastic Surgery Disasters and In 3-D.

hstencil, Friday, 6 June 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

also "I Lost On Jeopardy"

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"Weird Al" rules!! Have you ever seen any interviews of the man? He is such a nice guy. He is also the rock 'n roll embodiment of the American Dream. He got his big break by being nothing more than a passionate music fan. He sent in his own recordings to the Dr. Demento show, and Mr. Demento liked them so much he played them on his show, which caused a sensation among the Dr. Demento listening crowd.

Jello Biafra, on the other hand, according to some accounts I've heard, is an egotistical prick.

Evan (Evan), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll always have a soft spot for Weird Al, I think. and my respect/enjoyment of him has certainly stayed more consistent than my appreciation of Mr. Biafra (though that might change if Al starts doing spoken-word double albums).

And Dare to Be Stupid is amazing amazing amazing.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

what would be the Weird Al equivalent of Biafra's Gilman St (?) beatdown? being savagely attacked by they might be giants fans?

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess: i just realized i was singing "dare to be stupid" to the tune of "chemical warfare"
Jody Beth: hahahaha
JB: that sort of works

that would make bootleg/mash-up.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I've made my views on the Weird Al Issue clear.

David Allen, Friday, 6 June 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

On a side note. Weird al's new album is continously terrible. I mean, the Avril Lavigne parody with lyrics such as "Why did you have to make me so constipated?".

Yuck.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Friday, 6 June 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Dan Regan. I was caught in an Orange County record shop with Ned and SF Sean a few months ago while the clerk played some appalling Jello spoken word record. He was lecturing the kids with that tired-ass, self-righteous oldtimer routine. It was sheer torture. He's everything I hate about punk rock and San Francisco. He's the absolute worst.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 6 June 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just dissing JB the other day to a coworker, but in fairness, we busted it out & the man, for those albums, had a great fckn punk rock voice. I'm leery of his recent projects, & unwilling to flip sides through a spoken word double album, but c'mon. a major punk icon, & a vicious wit that still has relevance, in comparison to a total bottom feeding satirist? show some respect.

autovac (autovac), Saturday, 7 June 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"...unwilling to flip sides through a spoken word double album..."
I still think he's the perfect antidote to multitude of right-wing talk radio hosts or the Fox News Network.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Saturday, 7 June 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe, but something about his argle-bargle voice always makes it seem like he's screaming right in my face.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 7 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

he's the perfect antidote to multitude of right-wing talk radio hosts

I can kind of see this if the audiences for that kind of radio show would ever be interested or even exposed to JB, which they wouldn't. JB isn't just preaching to the converted, he's hectoring the converted. In that annoying voice. Blech.

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 7 June 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hectoring is right.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 7 June 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Jello Biafra is a hypocritical goon.

Weird Al seems like a fine fellow.

Mean Guy, Saturday, 7 June 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Weird Al clubs baby seals for kicks. (But he clubs them with RHYTHM!)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Saturday, 7 June 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

He clubs them as Ted Nugent.

nickn (nickn), Sunday, 8 June 2003 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

He clubs them WITH Ted Nugent.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 June 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

He secretly IS Ted Nugent (its a Jeckyl/Hyde thing...though its a matter of conjecture which one is Hyde.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 9 June 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

OHHHH, Shit! I read an article on the interweb a year ago, where some smartass posited the idea that Ted Nugent and George Michaels were actually the same person. I can't remember the title, but maybe its cached on Google somewhere.
