as an sidebar to the "25 Most Influential Ambient Albums" thread, I ask this:
Tangerine Dream...fabulously talented crafters of soul-melting soundscapes who put Pink Floyd to shame; or...
overrated keyb twiddling bores grunting out albums that sound "like Enigma...but without charm or even a beat."
LET ILM DECIDE!

I have put a lot of thought into this, and I have come to this conclusion: TD is crappy crap.

Listen to TD's output from Electronic Meditation to Phaedra
late at night while on acid. You'll never be the same.

Dave is otm, my personal faves being Zeit, Atem and Phaedra.

like Enigma...but without charm or even a beat."

Ugh! Those beats were the worst thing about Enigma!

force majeure is my favorite of the later stuff, the last piece is a meltdown. I also like 'no man's land' from hyperborea.

phaedra is just a beautiful record no matter what.

I meant to say 'also my favorite' of the later stuff, but I'm posting to ILM at 11:17pm on a saturday night about 4 minutes into side one of 'phaedra' and I just plain forgot to type the word

one month passes...
Most of it is crap but check out "Thief", an early Michael Mann movie with a TD soundtrack, and Manuel Göttsching´s E2-E4; fantastic proto-chill out-ambient-eurohouse-Cafe-del Mare....
