Technotronic is better than Dave Matthews on the strength of 'Pump Up The Jam' alone

Not sure that's what's meant by "jam band," Millar, but run with that thought!

Technotronic had photogenic but ultimately talentless Felly & Ya Kid K! There is no debate. TECHNOTRONIC WINS!

The ultimate problem is that very few people are ging to actually own an album by both artists and be able to objectively judge. I will go on the basis of what little I know re: singles and style.

1. Technotronic does not use any "real" instruments. Dave Matthews Band uses hella "real" instruments. Advantage: Technotronic (violin? puke).

2. Technotronic has some second-rate guest rappers that still manage to do a decent enough job, at least 25% of the time, as long as you only want to hear about why you should be dancing and/or how. Dave Matthews' lyrics deal with possibly more abstract issues and a greater range of the human experience. Advantage: Technotronic (get your body on the floor tonight, make my day).

3. Technotronic is fun to dance to and is Belgian. Dave Matthews is impossible to dance to and is South African. Advantage: Technotronic (actually nationality is completely irrelevant).

4. When I tell my friends I have the Technotronic album, they look at me weird. If I told them I had a Dave Matthews Band album, they would hit me. Advantage: Technotronic.

So, if you are Millar, it is obvious that Technotronic's Pump Up The Jam is 100% better than any Dave Matthews Band album.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 9 June 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

millar to judge objectively you wd have to have no records by EITHER band, and also never heard anything by them anywhere else

mark s (mark s), Monday, 9 June 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

objectively, I would buy a novel called "Technotronic" but I would never buy a novel called "The Dave Matthews Band"

Millar (Millar), Monday, 9 June 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Technotronic has its roots in Belgian new beat (what might be termed "happy industrial"), which was the coolest style *ever* for about five minutes in 1990; Dave Matthews Band has its roots in UVA frat parties circa 1990, which isn't even cool if you happened to be doing an onstage kegstand at the time.

Not really a head-to-head comparison, I'm just sayin'. Advantage: Technotronic.

DMB. I can't stand "Pump Up The Jam." I liked "What Would You Say?" to some degree. (Can't say I like any of his other stuff but it's not horrible)

What is it with ILM? Did Dave Matthews molest you all as children? (besides aurally)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 9 June 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

What is it with ILM? Did Dave Matthews molest you all as children?

If by "molest" you mean perform in front of, and by "children" you mean college students at frat parties, and by "you all" you mean my brother, then yes. Yes he did.

Technotronic don't exist any more. DM band does. Advantage: Technotronic.

if only Technotronic had been on the soundtrack of Matrix Reloaded. the DM song on there is scarily bordering on nu-metalness

3. Technotronic is fun to dance to and is Belgian.

hah! First time that Belgian is used in a positive way. (Conveniently forgets the Fucking Dewaele Bros bootleg hype.) I remember being freaked out by the lipsyncha girl's blue lips. If I remember correctly Technotronic does still exist. Ya Kid K lives in NY. And, yes, New Beat was fantastique for five minutes... until the (uber hipster mode on) punters started crowding the Boccacio dance floor.

You should have seen the reaction to my favorite club playing "Get Up (Before The Night Is Over)" last Saturday. Maybe if Jacques Lu Cont remixed "I Did It" the DMB would stand a chance.
