Please use this thread to discuss any or all of the following:

1) the tracks on the disc itself
2) Empire
3) whether this is a fair trade
4) the last mix tape/CD-R you made
5) your sister
6) what you'd put on a mix for your sister
7) other things I should look into; in particular I'm open to recommendations of indie-pop that sounds like "Survival" because it almost makes me think I could like twee-ish stuff

Even "Another Rainy Night"?

(Not that I've heard the album in a decade.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

It's funny to realize I also haven't heard Empire in nearly ten years. Even funnier to realize that back then, it was one of my favorite albums. Funnier still to realize I don't even remember what songs were on Empire.

So, um, here's a mix CD tracklist I made for my room-mate, who is pretty much like my adopted little sister, so it's not-too-inappropriate here:

Princess Superstar - You Get Mad at Napster
Bjork - Pretty Rocks
Fishbone - Movement in the Light
Ani DiFranco - Evolve
Common/Jill Scott - I Am Music
Soul Coughing - Lazy Bones
Radiohead - Treefingers
Tom Waits - I Don't Wanna Grow Up
They Might Be Giants - Dead
Sigur Ros - Olsen Olsen
Medeski Martin and Wood - Retirement Song
Ben Folds Five - Philosophy (live)
a 10-min Jimmy Page guitar solo from some obscure fanclub-only record
Serart - Love is the Peace

Aw, I had a roommate like that too.

Yeah, at the time, I though Geoff Tate was like the greatest singer ever. My sister and I like to jam on "Another Rainy Night" so I'm pretty sure the tape will be worth it just for that track.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 10 June 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"Another Rainy Night" is decent. "Empire" is OK. "Jet City Woman" and "Hand On Heart" are tolerable. The rest of Empire is unlistenably awful.

Heh, "It's starting to hit me like a, um, uh, uh, a 2-ton. . . uh. . . heavy thing".
