I am interested in playing around with a desktop publishing program.

I am looking for either shareware or freeware, not warEz. Are their any programs available on the web that do basic desktop publishing for free/super cheap that are stable and effective. I do not need a lot of bells and whistles, just something that will allow me to do basic zine layouts and editing.

if you are using Mac OS X or Linux you can use the Gimp, which is a free alternative to Photoshop. there may be a Windows port, but I have no idea. I think this question is better suited to ILE though..
