Which band was better at its peak? Which turned into the bigger simps?

Simple Minds were in the Breakfast Club, which should give them the edge.

However, I'll plump for James, because when I bought their Greatest Hits (god knows why) I was shocked to discover just how many of their songs I casually knew and liked without ever knowing they were all by them.

Simple Minds did an unforgivable cover of "Street Hassle"
James did a pretty horrible version of "Sunday Morning"

Advantage: James.

i loved both songs at the time, but i probably have more early 90s guilt than late 80s guilt now so Simple Minds for me

He who has Wah Wah, wins.

Oh, yes. "Jam J" defeats "The Kick Inside of Me".

James win hand over fist. For a start, the Simple Minds didn't even write "Don't You Forget About Me" (it was initially written -- specifically for the film -- to be sung by Billy Idol). Secondly, it became the Simple Minds' albatross: their biggest hit single to date something they didn't even compose themselves.

I think Tim Booth sounds like a cow getting impregnated so I would have to go with Simple Minds: they at least had a peak, even if they are beyond dreck now.

Simple Minds didn't even write "Don't You Forget About Me"

But "Born of Frustration" was a total ripoff of it, which makes it worse - even though it's the song I would rather hear.

Alex - i thought Bryan Ferry was first choice to sing it ?

This is a bit like asking whether I'd like to be pummelled about the head or dunked in yak snot.

Both bands have done far better.

Err.....good point, but yes...I'd sooner listen to it than to "Don't You..."

Hmmmmm....y'know, you're right. Idol did record a rendition of it though for the film, perhaps after Ferry wisely demured. Billy's version is available on whatever compilation he put out within the last couple of years.
