Just stumbled across a copy of Parallel Lines I bought last year and still haven't even taken the shrink wrap off of. And theres this poor sap and his copy of Ken Burns Jazz; So, ILM....what still needs taking out of its wrapper and listening to?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

My copy of 'Stupid Stupid Stupid' by Black Grape has been shrinkwrapped for about 3 years, I reckon. And there are loads more in a similar state.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

None that I've bought myself. Plenty promos that I've been given.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

it will soon be a year since i bought the Trojan Dub Box Set, and i'm sorry to say its still in its plastic wrap. why do i pretend to be THAT interested in classic dub??

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Possibly Kate Bush's The Sensual World. I'm not entirely sure how long I've had it, but I've kept holding off because I never felt I'd played The Red Shoes enough yet to step on to a new album.
I have now though, so I really should unwrap it. The one song I've heard from it, "The fog", is all sorts of swell.

never happens, when i buy something i buy it because i want to HEAR it, not just because i want to own it... waste of money, imo.

willem (willem), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

a globe unity orchestra CD.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Slowdive's Just For A Day is still in its wrapper-- I already know I'm not missing anything.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The J Mascis and the Fog album remains unlistened to 2 years after I bought it.

Leave it in its wrapper. In fact, put it in a BIG BROWN WRAPPER and write my address on it and put a stamp on it and MAIL IT TO ME, YOU BASTARD!!! Humph!

kate (kate), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a problem, Kate. Email me your address, I have access to free international shipping.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I truly hope that you're serious, Chris because that would make me very happy indeed! (And if you're not serious, well, please don't send any letterbombs to HSA's flat.)

kate (kate), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

About half my collection, I'm guessing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

If Ned gets AMG promos, I don't doubt it.

If kate hadn't said it, I would've.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had the last Belle and Sebastian album for over three years now and I still haven't given it a listen. Nothing else really, I haven't had enough money the past few years to buy anything I didn't immediately want to hear. Well, let me qualify that... many, many indie-pop 7"s that I can't resist buying for 50 cents each in the bargain bins.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"it will soon be a year since i bought the Trojan Dub Box Set"

You had to mention those Trojan box sets didn't you? I bought about a dozen of the little suckers well over a year ago (probably more like two years ago in fact) and I still haven't listened to at least half of 'em!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i nearly did buy a few more of them as well. i mean they're obviously good but then so is a lot of stuff I never feel compelled to listen to

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

not listened yet? from a batch of many, there may be a coupla Leo Rekkids that a pal from Brit'n has sent me... oi, true - i didn't *buy* them, those were just another man's promos... but i'm sure i haven't listened to two George Lewis's that i bought 3-4 years ago, and i have doubts 'bout one DJ Spooky too

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Not still in the shrink wrap, but I've had Pulnoc's "City of Hysteria" for about 4 1/2 years and have never even touched it.

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Lambchop Is A Woman, Giant Sand's Chore of Enchantment, George Jones Live With the Possum, and one more, I can't think of the guy's name right now, dammit! One of those Southron singer-songwriter types, ruff+tumble, performed with his son, but his son recently died (not Doc Watson)...Billy Joe Shaver, that's it.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Lambchop - Is A Woman

If you have the version with the second disc, I think the cover of This Corrosion is worth the price of admission alone.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 11 June 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I just realised that I have a copy of Steve Reich's City Music that I bought while on tour nearly two years ago that I have never actually listened to.

I think the cover of This Corrosion is worth the price of admission alone

It is the most horrifying thing I've ever heard. But then again, I hate This Corrosion and I hate Lambchop. All they would have to do is add some Welsh Lesbian Free Jazz saxophonists, and it would be the Worst Record Ever Made.

kate (kate), Thursday, 12 June 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Also I have a bunch of blues stuff on really tiny labels that I bought because I like blues (hey, who doesn't?) and I liked the covers, but gave them sort of superficial listens (20-30 seconds per track, probably while flipping through a magazine) and then tucked away.
Just did the same thing with a Tony Joe White two-in-one CD reissue. The production is just overwhelmingly shitty. That sort of sappy crappy 70s/80s sound. Ug. Nowhere near the greatness of his self-titled second album.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 12 June 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

quite a few. luxuria by howard devoto .. keep starting it then i hear the voice and hit the off butten, same goes for That Dog album on 4ad, erin mckewon recent album, and Ether album this is now hidden deep in the archive. no reason except i just realised that it sux and couldn't be arsed taking it back anywhere. oh .. there must be more .. yup .. an Urge Overkill album (pre big budget days), listened to first couple of tracks and wasn't impressed,
