Who's done one? Specifically, who did the amazing one that Jeff Mills plays sometimes...

you rang?

there's a J. Mark Andrus(?) & Mark Gage(vapourspace) one - currently sitting on the alt.binaries.remixes.mp3 newsgroup as i type. could that be the one?
it's (according to the id3 tag) from Hot Tracks 15th Anniversary Disk 01 and has some 808 state samples thrown in (!) and some snap (!! eek), some noise gate fun, some delay and an annoying synth noise. funkytown '91 is what it says is the title.

i believe it has been remixed and buggered about with by lots of folk, but the original does it for me. (no, not that)

I've got the Andrus & Gage remix, and it's a bit crap. There's also Andrew Medez Funkytown 2002, which doesn't do much to the tune but throws in a big filtered electro bassline. Not amazing, but effective.

That's Andrew Mendez

And here's another one: Split Inc Funkytown, a dubby techno one from '99, released on the Kreisel label.

There was a good one done right after its initial release.. I'm still at work so I can't grab it and tell you what remix is exactly is and who did it, but it's around 10 minutes long, and was on a Mexican pressing via Casablanca.

As for covers, certainly World Domination Enterprises' version can't be topped and can't be stopped.
