YEs, Eminem has been discussed to death in this forum. But has anyone (I honestly don't know, as I haven't bothered to do a search) actually zeroed in on what they don't want him to do on this next record?

Here are a couple of my own thoughts:

1. No tracks involving Hallie's voice.
2. No tracks produced by Dr. Dre or featuring rapping by Dr. Dre.
3. No tracks produced by Eminem.
4. NO, NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO D-12.
5. No long, uninspired R&B choruses.
6. No bitching about critics who don't understand Eminem.

NO SAMPLING CLASSIC ROCK

NO AIR-PUNCHING AOR WE-ARE-ALL-ONE ANTHEMS

SHADY SHADY SHADY

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

By invoking and dwelling in the past you are ALREADY CLASSIC ROCK HA HA.

More crypto-Sisters of Mercy goth rock like "White America" plz. Best song on that album (along with "Till I Collapse").

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Amen! Bring back Shady - that was the last time Em was fun to listen to.

One thing that is A-OK for next Em disc:

Dropping E before recording.

Another two that aren't:

Dissing harmless targets.
"Getting into the heads of Em's fans."

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Somehow, I just... don't give a fuck.

Adam A. (Keiko), Friday, 13 June 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Eminem has become a hideously boring rapper, and yet somehow "Lose Yourself", a truly shitty tune, is being hailed as one of the best rap songs ever, or something along those lines...

ham on rye (ham on rye), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's what I would like to hear:

*songs about stuff other than his personal life...WE GET IT ALREADY
*songs produced by Alec Empire
*experimentation with other vocal cadences
*rhymes as visceral as he is capable of minus the corny shock value factor
*no skits whatsofuckingever
*the return of his sense of humor
*a colab with Triumph the Dog & Moby

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

(ham on rye's post makes me laugh cuz "Lose Yourself" is one of the only songs I really fully LOVE that Em's had anything to do with)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

*more humour
*more elbows to face disses like 'The sauce'
*more Proof, less Bizarre

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not an Eminem fan by a long stretch of the imagination, but, my god, please don't let the man anywhere near any fucking production desks whatsoever. And perhaps he could go back to dissing rappers, rather than such noted battling luminaries as Moby, and that guy from NSYNC that isn't JT or the space guy.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

what's wrong with talking about yourself? Lots of great writers only wrote/write about themselves. What's the difference?

D Aziz (esquire1983), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem might be that 'great' adjective.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

his new alter ego/alias/album title would have to be "Em".... in full hip hop elder statesman bling mode. gonna be more 50, more beef, at least one staggeringly personal confessional, tears & blood spilt.
As long as he takes the time to do it right.

scott is OTM as far as I hope nots, haters don't know

autovac (autovac), Friday, 13 June 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

this is a v 'focus group' type thread. we should send a copy of this thread to em.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 13 June 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Good corniness as good corniness instead of bad corniness disguised as, well, take your pick.

No positivity whatsoever.

No self-referential "blah blah media image" "cleverness" crud.

Clarke B. (stolenbus), Friday, 13 June 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

No rapping.
No beats.
No preprogrammed music.
No prewritten music.
Just pure, all-out improv viola jams.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

He should just rhyme over a 909 and a marimba.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

No Obie, no D12 -- surely he's done enough for his homies by this point.

I second the "no Dre rapping," (a rule that should apply even on Dre's ablums) but a coupla Dre productions is fine by me. "Business" still bounced more than anything else on the last album.

More Bush&Cheney bashing, please.

I challenge him to come up with 20 rhymes for SARS. And Monkeypox too.

JesseFox (JesseFox), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

"junkie cocks"?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 13 June 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What he needs is MORE DISCO. The gayer the better. The heavier, more (ugh) meaningful Eminem tries to be, the more boring it is. Hence, Lose Yourself = rubbish, Without Me = gleeful disco joy.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 June 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

How about if he becomes meaningfully gay?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 14 June 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Fine - as long as he still disses that N'Sync guy for not calling him or something.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 14 June 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

He should do a concept record about asthma medication like RDJ did

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 14 June 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

While I can hope for the best, my good friend Theodore Fogelsanger was probably right when he stated this one will be called The Ol' Whinypants LP.

Though if my glorious Eminem=Prince analogy holds up, this album will be his "Around The World In A Day," which should be thoroughly interesting (if only good for two great singles).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 14 June 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it would be nice if he didn't make that next album. he's already dropped a few pieces of shit.

faggotry (faggotry), Saturday, 14 June 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

''No rapping.
No beats.
No preprogrammed music.
No prewritten music.
Just pure, all-out improv viola jams.''

is NA me?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 14 June 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Eminem Must have a duet with MC Serch.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Sunday, 15 June 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

YO EM DO NOT LISTEN TO ILM THEY HATE RAP

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 15 June 2003 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I DO think Eminem should be giving Gas Faces (much love to the Onion for keepin' the old school alive this week).
