Radiohead - 2+2=5

An amazing opener. I love how the tension builds up. And when the song explodes and mutes into some kind of metal. And those jangly guitars in the second half which make me think of Unrest. A universe of a song with all the highs and lows, ups and downs, calm and noisy bits. And this perfect sudden end.

Yes, followed by 13 tracks of nothing remotely as dynamic...

Easily my favorite track on the album ("There, There" being a close second).

maybe not in the loud-soft way, but i think myxomatosis is more terrifyingly intense than anything radiohead's done yet.

actually ... come to think of it i find 2+2=5 pretty uninspired. the guitar playing is a real "radiohead format" throwback.

this is a good opening track. nice dynamics, reminds me of pavement's embassy row.

I thought it might be like a deliberate 'Look, we've gone back to proper songs with guitars!' bait-and-switch pisstake. I still sort of hope it is.

(I was sort of ashamed of how pleased I was at the gratuitous powerchord bit in the middle, and impressed at how ashamed I was)

Why be ashamed? Embrace rockism, and it will manfully embrace you back.

I was standing at the bus-stop with it on headphones after I'd bought it and within seconds of that bit I mentally chided myself as a 'rockist' and also felt ashamed of that. I'm damned either way.

Ferg (Ferg), Friday, 13 June 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I would say that anyone who would label something as "rockist" is damned.

Anyone buying an album by a rock band and then chiding themselves for "rockism" is double damned.

Snivel.

Somehow Thom's vocals here remind me of Eddie Vedder.
