I've found a few good used cd stores during my stay in Japan, but now I need to figure what to buy at them. I've made a small list including:

Shiina Ringo - Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hara
Malice Mizer - Merveilles
Chara - Madrigal, Strange Fruits
Judy & Mary - J.A.M.

what else?

Tomoe Shinohara... anything, pretty much.. but "Supermodel" is wackiness squared. Makes Bjork sound like Patti Smith.

Great Japanese Pop

Who wants to recommend some Japanese pop music

zebedee (zebedee), Thursday, 19 June 2003 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

My boyfriend is convinced this genre is concocted for Westerners, unpopular in its own country. I had to tell him he's mistaken. I really... RRRRRREALLY dislike this type of music. The other day I put on a JPop radiochannel on iTunes to please my Japanese colleague. I am still suffering from the ordeal.

J-pop is just what mainstream Japanese pop is called in Japan, as the Japanese soccer league is called the J-league. Japanese apparently enjoy affixing J to nouns.

Ok, I've pick up a lot of good cds so far. I got 3 Tomoe Shinahara, a few Chara, Judy&Mary, Denki Groove, Roomic Cube . But I can't at all find any Malice Mizer which I reallyu want to find. All the Japanese people I've talked to said that becaue the band is no longer around there wouldn't be any cds of thier's in the stores (even the used stores) I don't know how true this is. I really want to get the new Shiina Ringo CD, but should I spend the $30 on it? (It's too new to find in used sections.)

Nathalie, that's funny, I hate it, too. Can't figure out why, but it drives me up the wall.

Clarke B., Thursday, 26 June 2003 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Nairn, Mana from Malice Mizer formed a new group called Moi Dix Mois which is pretty similar to the last MM album. Former lead singer Gackt also has quite a solo career - maybe try his debut album Mars?

If you can't find the new Ringo CD used the older ones are good too, especially Shouso Strip. Also the new Aco album Irony is pretty, kind of like a J-Vespertine.

Yeah, I saw the video for a song on the Aco album and I realy liked it. I'm looking for that CD too. But I think it was just released this week.
