Acoustic Guitars Used As Weapons Of Mass Destruction And/Or Percussion Instruments

looking for songs/albums/artists where the acoustic guitar is used for ferocity and volume and just plain meanness. i was listening to one of my all-time fave hard rock albums, The Second Damnation by The Damnation of Adam Blessing and the acoustic guitars are really loud and also used for percussive qualities. They follow and mimic the drums with a very soul-satisfying kerchunka clunk.Noel Redding's Road album/band has the same thing going on. The Groundhogs did it. Punk rock fervor. Blood on the strings. "Yes, I'm playing an acoustic guitar but that doesn't mean that i don't want to bash you over the fucking head with it". "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" i suppose would be the uber-example. that new york dolls thread made me think of johnny thunder's solo acoustic album and there are moments of tortured glory on that. so, doesn't actually have to be straight-up rock. that's just how i approached it today. any example:avant/noise/blues/folk. anything. i have a john martyn album that really stings. thanx folx!

Does "Vamos" by the Pixies count?

Famous Athlete, Sunday, 15 June 2003 05:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ya, that would probably do it. i was actually trying to think of some indie-rock examples cuz ilm has put me in an indie frame of mind lately, and i remembered that someone had brought up "Billy Two" by the Clean somewhere and that loud fast chunky thing is in the ballpark. that guitar-as-battered-piece-of-wood quality is always lovely. probably some feelies songs that i can't remember fit the bill as well.

Strangely, I've been breaking out the indie records too. Now playing: Replacements, Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash. Get thee to a Pitchfork!

ILM has been making me do a lot of weird things lately. Like defend the pixies and pavement to my Eddytor! and write about the freakin' Doors first thing in the morning.

check Six Organs of Admittance. also Ghost.
Kate Biggar sometimes plays an acoustic, but it usually sounds huge shrieky & electric so I guess that doesn't count?

Bukka White, by the way.

Pete Townshend, "Tommy," the transition between the overture and "It's A Boy," not to mention "Pinball Wizard"

Chris Clark (Chris Clark), Sunday, 15 June 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin Coyne - the muscluar manner he often plays, even the particular way he holds, his acoustic is as if the guitar were there mainly as a vehichle for KC to burrow'n'ram his way from point a to point b as simply and directly as possible...

the thing is, this impression's based on the one time i saw him perform live, ten years ago or so, together with just another guitarist (whose task it was to supply the 'crafty guitarism'), yet i suspect that that's the manner KC has always handled his acoustic

I was struck by similar thoughts as you're asking for when watching Luka Bloom once.

I've never seen any musician play any instrument anywhere near as hard and rough as Ani plays acoustic guitar. She downright thrashes the thing.

i wish that i could approach ani difranco from a place of non-judgemental serenity, but unfortunately i have too many preconceptions of her in the back of my brain that refuse to be quieted. perhaps, you could give me the name of a song or 2 to download that might alleviate these fears of mine? i will try to be fair.
