yes. that awful venue is putting a show on but its early this time so that's a good thing.
you can get back home in time for dinner and TV (= big brother probably).
there is a support act (can't remmeber names but its improv too).
I should be there (though i'm quite busy right now).

Went to see Akiyama yesterday at Sound 323 and he was great. He assures me that the Japanese for Spaghetti Western is Maccaroni Western

hey daniel- I was there as well. I was very badly shaven and had a black puma bag.
diamond- he plays guitar. just came back and as I type i'm having dinner at a reasonable hour (that's 9pm, not 1 am, as is usually the case after coming back from watching gigs).
In short: keith rowe and eddie have just written another chapter (of 76328) in the book called 'here is how NOT to play guitar and percussion'. Rowe didn't hit the notes with his fingers throughout nor did prevost hit his drum once.
As for Akiyama: he is really versatile: he played a solo at the beginning of the evening set consisting of one piece, which was an un-amplified accousitc guitar drone piece. but during the trio set he wasn't plucking many notes, he'd do all this 'other stuff' (roll this polystyrene ball along the body of the guitar, the thing being so 'amplified' that it just gave this lush stream of sound, which my eardrums welcomed).
and that was, what, an hour, 45/30 mins. who knows: i didn't have a watch and just wasn't 'aware' and since there wasn't really any percussion eddie wasn't gonna let you know taht the clock was ticking.
These performances are very visually stimulating so its a wonder how some ppl just close their eyes bcz i couldn't take 'em off.
finally: the guy next to me forgot to switch his mobile. he went through his bag and it was agonizing (for him) to switch it off. he was embarrsed but I just don't know why. the ringing was never going to be an alien event with this stuff going on.
it was v funny.
Overall I got more out of it than when AMM played with christian wolff at the conway hall. an excellent day.

Akiyama was an absolute revelation. I particularly liked the one at the end of his solo set, with the pretty motif that he played at various points along the fretboard. I loved the unexpected rock element in his work, from the headgear to the slide fretting. I agree about the visual aspect of this type of performance. What's the point of going to see Paul Hood, (or to a greater extent, the Bohman Brothers, for that matter) with your blooming eyes closed!!?? As for recognising you, I'm afraid I have no recollection of either an unshaven man or a puma bag. Meanwhile, I was the large-nosed fellow sitting at the back, with a giant grey-haired Bosnian man and a tiny bespectacled Japanese woman!

heh. I've no recollection of you, either.
I was pleasantly surprised abt the rock aspect as well.
