You know, the bendy-twangy thing. (Maybe it actually originated with Duane Eddy's "Peter Gunn Theme"?) I need more examples for my Master's Thesis on Kenny Loggins. Here's what I got so far:

John Cougar, "The Authority Song"
Fatboy Slim, "Rockafeller Skank" (I've heard this might be a sample of "Footloose")
Tina Turner, "What You Get is What You See"

any others?

When I try and remember how Footloose goes, I just hear the Saved by the Bell theme in my head.

I'm remembering the beginning of Karma Chameleon sounding like that..

.. however, I could be on crack...

There are probably more songs with the Footloose melody

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 17 June 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

(e.g. the guitar riff on Rod Stewart's "All Right Now")

I'm remembering the beginning of Karma Chameleon sounding like that.

I'll have to listen again, but in the very least "Karma Chameleon" suggests the "Footloose" theme (which would be an accomplishment, considering it came before).

I always thought "Footloose" was a ripoff of "O My Soul" by Big Star (the opening, twangy riff on both that is).

When I try and remember how Footloose goes, I just hear the Saved by the Bell theme in my head.

I keep trying and end up humming 10 different Tragically Hip Songs.
hum hum a buck and a half a beer.

When I think of the opening riff, I segue into Freeway Jam by Jeff Beck. Go figure.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

if you think about it real hard, the intro to Trouble Down South~Mekons has a Footloosian feel to it.

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ciccone have a song with that riff. I'll remember what it's called in a minute.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It doesn't have the same guitar line, but "Freeze Frame" by the J. Geils band sounds exactly like Footloose. i personally cant stand either

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

all of these derive from duane eddy, no? or at least the move

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The obvious one is "Chattahoochee". Also, most Huey Lewis and the News songs, I think. "Workin for a Livin'" sounds pretty close to "Footloose", though I don't remember anything at all about the guitars.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Got it. The Ciccone one is "Leggit It's The Rozzers".

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Lone Justice, "I Found Love"

Chris Clark (Chris Clark), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Look" by Roxette is somewhat similar, and even worse. In fact, Roxette is one of the worst bands of all time.

blutroniq (blutroniq), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a Selofane 74 track that has a similar opening riff

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew a guy at college whose entire music collection was 4 cassette tapes. and they were all Roxette.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I was actually thinking about this the other day!

Hey, Jim: I know a guy whose two fave bands are The Doors and Creed, and therefore only owns music by these two. Then a friend of mine that goes to school with him, plays him Creed's cover version of "Roadhouse Blues". First words out of his mouth: "Who sings this crap? What the fuck is this?"

Francis Watlington, Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Minus the twang, you've got George Michael's Faith.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)
