electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Momus in a jam band. Interesting. Maybe Phish at one of their halloween shows will play an entire Momus album.

Phish Fan, Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i choose dave matthews for his melodic fm radio sensabilities.

doom-e, Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It must be Dave Matthews because he has more fans.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Alyssa, Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

I think at Music Ragnarok, they'll probably kill each other simultaneously.

And good riddance.

Pessimist, Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

Since I have never heard anything by Momus: Momus!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

Dave Matthews is a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me.

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

Random googlers storm the DMB stage, unplugging amps and touching touching touching their hero.

Momus by a mile.

pleased to mitya (mitya), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

Kanye.

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

This thread is not complete without an appearance by a Momus fan asking who Dave Matthews is.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

dave. momus isn't bland enough, apparently ignorant of the fact that some of the greatest musicians ever are bland

hjsk, Tuesday, 9 May 2006 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

hsjk hahahaha

Roque Strew (RoqueStrew), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

Most bizarre TS thread ever!

daavid (daavid), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

This is a stupid question

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 01:25 (nineteen years ago)

Is this the 1st thread about himself that momus hasnt posted on?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe he shouldn't dignify it with an answer

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 01:35 (nineteen years ago)

let's break this down even further
taking sides: DMB's Crash Into Me versus Momus's Coming in a Girl's Mouth
(I have to say I find Dave's more pornographic - "I come into you in a boy's dream"??)

Dave:
You've got your ball
you've got your chain
tied to me tight tie me up again
who's got their claws
in you my friend
Into your heart I'll beat again
Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock
and sweet you roll
Lost for you I'm so lost for you
You come crash into me
And I come into you
I come into you
In a boys dream
In a boys dream

Momus:
What is the cultural meaning of coming in a girl's mouth?
Do I wish to feed her or fill her mouth with filth?
Is it just to test whether she accepts my messiest mess
Or simply paint a funny milk moustache across her face?
Or is there in this thrilling ritual something messianic
Some sort of baptism by sperm?
Like my cock is John the Baptist saying
"One day someone greater than me shall come"
Or some Moses who leads an entire nation across her tongue
To liberation
That must be it ..... why else fill a girl's mouth saltily full
With a fluid the consistency of honey, tapioca and motor oil?

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I guess I like seeing their lyrics sitting side by side like that... I take back my previous posts!

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm playing those two songs back-to-back the next time I find myself at a party

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

MOMUS.
lock thread.
NOW!
please?

eedd, Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

I like Alyssa's email address: laughmuch04. I wish it wasn't taken.

TRG (TRG), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

They're like diametrically opposite Jungian archetypes aren't they?

I'll take the Mome.

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

i'll go with whichever one doesn't wear an eyepatch for no apparent reason

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

I've actually no idea who the Dave Matthews Band are, what they sound like, etc. And I'm not sure if I really care to find out. If we're really diametrically opposed Jungian archetypes, I might get obsessed with him, and make a satirical concept album about his spiritual errors, which would be a BIG waste of time.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 11 May 2006 02:22 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I bet you could solicit contributions hereabout to make that happen.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 11 May 2006 02:29 (nineteen years ago)

How is it possible to be a big enough music fan as Momus clearly is, and not have any idea who Dave Matthews Band are? This is like when people say they know nothing about and have never seen Star Wars. You'd have to ahve lived in a hole in the ground and never walked through any department store in the Western world or something.

richardk (Richard K), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

This is like when people say they know nothing about and have never seen Star Wars.

I have never seen Star Wars or its sequels, and know practically nothing about it. I know that Darth Vader is the baddie and Luke Skywalker is the goodie and that there's a robot that looks like a Dalek and another robot that looks like the one out of Metropolis. That is all I know. I also don't know anything about the Dave Matthews Band apart from the name and that it is a popular beat combo. I know an awful lot about other things and people that interest me (including Momus). I guess I'm just good at filtering out stuff I know in advance is not going to interest me.

P. Howes, Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's easy to be oblivious to Dave Matthews. His music is so bland that it's easy to hear it incidentally and not realize who it is - or to confuse him with John Mayer or Jason Mraz or any other of those bands that look like they walked out of a J. Crew catalogue.

Besides, I always thought DMB was only popular among North Americans. Can he even play in Europe? If he can, I would imagine it would only be for the ugly Americans there who undoubedly flock to his shows while travelling as a form of comfort like they do to McDonalds.

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Thursday, 11 May 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

momus plz to make that album.

p@reene (Pareene), Thursday, 11 May 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

This is like when people say they know nothing about and have never seen Star Wars. You'd have to ahve lived in a hole in the ground and never walked through any department store in the Western world or something.

Actually, I've never seen Star Wars either! I've always just assumed it's Cold War propaganda against communism in the guise of entertainment.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 11 May 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

nah. the Empire is clearly British.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 11 May 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

(with shades of Rome)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 11 May 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

It'd probably also be the best selling, most noticed one in a long time...

like murderinging (modestmickey), Thursday, 11 May 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

the shit-dumping thing alone would seem to lend itself well to a variety of Momusisms

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 11 May 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

momus would never have crew who dump shit on tourists on a riverboat cruise. he just wouldn't have that kind of scum around him.

ed slanders (edslanders), Thursday, 11 May 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

surely mr matthews would make a better tv presenter. momus was, er, not that good.
