Beyonce album anything anything anyone?

Unsure if this has been widely discussed on here already or not but has anyone heard it, at all? Have done some trawling and realised that aside from the singles I can find absolutely no indication of what it's like at all, and I want to know, clearly.

Has the snuck-forward-ness of the release date thing actually worked this time or is it clogging up slsk and I just keep missing it? I really really really want it to be great and I don't know anything about it at all.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Based on one listen...er. Some of the songs at the start were okay but towards the end it was one pretty dull ballad after another.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Dagnabbit, pretty-dull-ballad-string was exactly what I hoped would be bypassed. But thankyou Ned. I like the cover, it is sparkly.

Have you guys seen her perform live recently? SHE CAN SING THE PAINT OFF THE WALLS.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

haven't heard the record but I just realized that the horn hook from the chorus of the single is from the Chi-Lites' "Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So)."

Plus: I believe that Beyonce is the result of some really really good genetic engineering on the Frankenstein tip, just to create the perfect-looking human being. N'est ce pas?

Neudonym, Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

not just perfect-looking...

Favourite track: Yes, a ballad (!) co-produced by Focus... (that's his name, apparently, including the dots). Micro-soul! Other than that, not much musical adventure, alas. Hip Hop Star, the song with Big Boi is pretty cool. But nothing tops Work It Out.

Uptempo: Crazy In Love, Naughty Girl (interpolating Love To Love You Baby), Baby Boy (with Sean Paul), Hip Hop Star (that's the first four tracks right there), Work it Out.

Midtempo: Be With You, Me Myself And I, That's How You Like It (with Jay-Z), Bonnie & Clyde '03.

Ballads: Yes, Signs, Speechless (three in a row, halfway in), The Closer I Get to You (with Luther Vandross, so it had to be a ballad), Dangerously in Love 2, Gift From Virgo (again three in a row) and Daddy (kinda cute).

I've got it, but I've only listened to the first half. I'm LOVING the first four tracks.

TS: Focus... vs. El-P

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

And wait a minute, Focus... produced a track called "Yes"? My head's exploding. Where's Geir?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got half of it downloaded, and I'm loving it. Beyonce doesn't quite sound like herself on "Naughty Girl" and "Baby Boy," but they are fantastic songs. "Me Myself & I" is on right now, and I'm pretty impressed by it.

I'm lookin
so crazy my baby
I'm not myself
lately I'm foolish I don't do this
I been playin myself
baby I don't care
cos your love got the best of me
and baby you're makin a fool of me
you got me sprung and I don't care who sees
cos baby you got me you got me you got me

sorry I've just been addicted to that bridge for the past couple days and I felt like posting it (killer line emphasis added)

"Hip Hop Star" is AWESOME. Big Boi doesn't really add anything with his verse but the beat is crazy and Beyonce doesn't really sound like herself, which IMO is a good thing.

Jay-Z has co-written three songs on which he does not appear. Shuggie Otis has been sampled on two different occasions. I read the small print, me.

JoB (JoB), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"bad boy" is awesome.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone else get the sense that no one involved with 'Crazy in Love' cares a rat's anus about the verses, which seem rushed to me and are completely unmemorable*, because the whole point is to get to that creamy chorus with the horns and the hooks and the singing and the fun?

*actually, I remember her writhing all over the damned wharf from the video. oh, to be a stevedore!

Neudonym, Saturday, 21 June 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i really liked the first few tracks, thought the next few were good but less so, then it turned into 'southern hummingbird' - which is 100% fine by me. "that's how you like it" is the last song i liked; the rest is like, fill it up and tack on the older singles.

"crazy in love" aside, solange's album is a lot more, y'know, fun.

two weeks pass...
Oh my god I've finally heard "Crazy in Love" and it's the greatest thing I've heard in months!!! Wow!

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

its certainly been the biggest 'instant impact' tune i've heard this year, as in i knew it was good and i loved it just a few seconds in. you can still shove 'Ignition' up yer arse as far as i care.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY Steve and I are still in mind-meld mode!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Speechless is like MJ quality vocal frailty.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 11 September 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
I only just got to hear this (Chanukah present!), but it's great. Why didn't we talk about it more? Any song that bites from "I'd Rather Be With You" always wins my instant adoration.
