"Take It All Away" = classic

ten months pass...
girlschool fucking rocks. i mean, HARD.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Frightwig rocks harder. Better bass player.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Girlschool did stuff with Motorhead.

You don't get much harder.

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

rock by association?

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually enjoy Girlschool more, so advantage to them. But Girlschool doesn't have a moment to equal "My Crotch Does Not Say Go," so advantage to Frightwig. Fortunately, in my world, I don't have to choose.

spittle (spittle), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't heard frightwig since the 80s or something, so i can't comment. other than to say that girlschool rocks. HARD.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, and realizing the version of "hit and run" you just bought is the lame-ass american version that removes the best songs from the english version and replaces them with the least interesting songs from "demolition" - c/d?

d!

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Girlschool were one of the hardest rocking bands of the '80s.
Frightwig, uh, invented riot grrrl music, more or less.

QED.

chuck, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Girlschool mows over Frightwig, but Frightwig probably pops back up again.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, paula frazer (tarnation) used to be the bass player for frightwig, not that you would ever know this from listening to her work. frightwig wins by being from SF.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Girlschool by a country mile. The only really memorable Frightwig song was "My Crotch Does Not Say Go." (Which kicks total arse.)

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, when I first heard them, I thought Frightwig were going to be the lady Flipper, which would have been pretty fucking cool. I actually don't own their album anymore, haven't for years, but right this second I kinda wish I still did. Still, here's the REAL question:

Raszebrae vs. Frightwig: Who rocks harder?

A tossup, but for right now I pick Raszebrae by a nose hair, since they made Stairway to Hell (#498 out of 500!!) and Frightwig didn't, plus one of their songs apparently resembled "Barracuda" by Heart.

Precious Metal could kick BOTH of those bands' butts, though, EASY...

chuck, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Girlschool edge it cos the drummer's brother played in Angelwitch.

The REAL real question : Girlschool or Rock Goddess?

udu wudu (udu wudu), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, I really need to hear Girlschool now. El Sabor de Gene has convinced me. I trust his judgement.

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Frightwig. Just accept it.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

six months pass...
anyone doubting girlschool must listen to c'mon let's go asap. i can barely remember frightwig, but that doesn't mean anything.

frightwig are playing with the avengers and a slew of other sf punk bands at a mabuhay gardens reunion show in sept, however, it freaking sold out before I ever heard about it .

akm, Sunday, 3 June 2012 15:39 (thirteen years ago)

I thought the Frightwig bassist was busy being Flipper's bassist these days. What I've heard with her sounds pretty fantastic anyway.
Always did love Cat Farm Faboo, never heard the 2nd lp.

Stevolende, Sunday, 3 June 2012 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

xpost: hey akm, any word on the other bands for the Fab Mab reunion?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:46 (thirteen years ago)

Roxx
Vktms
Mutants
Toiling MIdgets
Animal Things
The Urge
Factrix
The Lewd
The Next
MIddle Class
Afflicted
Executioner
No Alternative

I have no idea who any of them are outside of Frightwig, Avengers, and Midgets, frankly.

It's a 'semi private' event apparently, there were only 300 tickets and they are gone.

akm, Monday, 4 June 2012 01:32 (thirteen years ago)

Oh man. Would love to be at that gig. The Lewd! But Olga died a few years ago.
