Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 June 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

He's on the hunt, he's after her.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 June 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

notice how they never really "show" her face in their videos

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The rest of their music doesn't even have nu-metal rapping.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Christian nu-metal goth Arkansas chicks are the fucking hottest.

adam (adam), Saturday, 21 June 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

according to Blender she ain't Xtian. Only the guitarist is. I doubt I'd like the album that much, since frankly its the contrast of the Tori-ness and the nu-metal rapping that makes the hit so fun.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 21 June 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

before any anxious parents call law enforcement

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Saturday, 21 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

damn that didnt come out right, never mind.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Saturday, 21 June 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

dave q in calum-esque shockah!

girl in the video looks nice from what i can tell...she seems to be 'half-singing' and not putting much effort in compared to the gusto of the song itself. its exhausting just listening to the song tho thats not why i dislike it.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 21 June 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw this on TOTP last nite. How is this number one? They're possibly the worst band ever. Worse than you could ever, ever imagine. Worse than Killing Joke. I saw All About Eve in a pub in Finsbury Park in 1985 just 'before they were famous' - I hold that evening in mind as a memory of just how fucking bad bands can be. Evanescence are in that league.

So are they American? That might explain it.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Saturday, 21 June 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Beyond quite wanting to see the lead singer nude, I have no regard for them whatsoever.

Worse than Killing Joke

All that's old is new again, eh Doctor? Still....at least you admit that Evanessence (EvanesCense? how does on spell it?) are beneath Killing Joke by even your standards.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the riffing is good.

as I don't pay attn tol lyrics things like misogny/nazism/xtianity pass me by.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

With a "C", yes. I thought the hit was striking - which doesn't exactly = good necessarily but does count for something - the first couple times I heard it. I haven't actually really heard it more than that. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't listen to the album.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got the album. It's actually pretty great. A few songs that are basically "Bring Me To Life" minus the guy, a few slow-paced lovely things.. one or two weak ones, but generally much stronger than you'd think.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 22 June 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

hating killing joke = hating fun

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 22 June 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know about that. i had a girlfriend bring the album over; and from what i heard – it's pretty cheese.

dyson (dyson), Sunday, 22 June 2003 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Catholic School Girls Rock!

(it had to be said)

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Sunday, 22 June 2003 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Hating cheese = hating fun.

bob snoom, Sunday, 22 June 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like the album, it passes the time and doesn't get that boring.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 June 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

The single sounds like Andrew Lloyd Webber's first stab at rap-rock. Which makes it odd that I don't mind it.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Sunday, 22 June 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You, sir, are committing and unspeakable disservice to the otherwise estimable Swervedriver. Shame on you.

hating killing joke = hating fun

Fuckin' A!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 22 June 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard BMTL at a party last night and it is pretty decent at the end of the day.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 22 June 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

funnily enough i don't hate the single, but i agree that they have all the right ingredients to be the very worst band in the world ever... they are like a composite terrible group who don't sound anywhere near as shit as they should, but they still seem to be some kind of all about eve, limp bizkit and creed. needless to say, this is not an especiually good thing in my book. i would find the singer a lot sexier were she a satanist, but i actually amcatholic, so that's easily explained...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Sunday, 22 June 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

with all the missing bits parsed and spelling mistakes removed!

its the cast of Buffy's favourite song

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 22 June 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

the video is a great piece of overblown Drama. more of this please. something in the vein of "november rain" or that meat loaf one next time out, please. the song is less inspiring without the visual aspect, but a hearty thumbs-up nonetheless.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 22 June 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i reckon she's pretty hot, too.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 22 June 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the song was quite good - it reminded me of Nisghtwish of all things. THey could lose the Nu-Metal rapping and the Christian schtick, but truly one of the few Nu-Metal tunes I've actually found listenable since the first System of a Down album, which is saying something.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 22 June 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i think its the fact shes in a loose nightie sort of thing in the video. you're just hoping for the right gust of wind...

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Sunday, 22 June 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

ilm = mentalists. worthless video. crap song.

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 22 June 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Bite your tongue, chaki. We prefer to be referred to as "Mentats", thank you very much.

and, speaking of loose nighties, this comes up when you do a GIS for the band.

Looks like someone's been overdoing it on the Spice Melange lately.

And I liked this one. Note the guy squatting in the lower right, looking depressed, as if to say, "Man, it SUCKS being the fat guy in the band with a hot chick. I should go ask Butch Vig for advice on how to stay slim & trim."

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 22 June 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my, its Avril's goth sister - yay hooray!

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 22 June 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

She looks like that one out of Heart before she got fat.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 22 June 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

or, to combine the previous two comments, it's funny how most cute goth chicks get fat about 5 years down the line.

it's like, CHRIST, lady, we all know you embrace the darkness n' shit, but stop jamming all those waffles into your ever-increasing gob and go out for a walk, whydoncha?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 22 June 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

This board has a really ugly side.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 22 June 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)
