Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 23 June 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 23 June 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the man is clearly out of control and must be stopped. i mean World Idol? please...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 23 June 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I nominate Atlas.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 23 June 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The mogul also hints that he is going to drop a bombshell on the music industry. It is an idea that he says he cannot openly talk about for now, but he promises that "it will be a revolution."

Fuller hints that the idea has to do with "making music much easier to get, in terms of listening, downloading, and purchasing. It's a simple idea that no one has really done before."

this is more interesting - what do you suppose he has in mind?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 23 June 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

If we'd thought of I Love Music first this site would probably be called ilovemusic.com or something and then we'd be talking.

Anyway, ILM isn't called ILM because I - or we - LM, so to speak. So that's something it has in common with Simon F's show.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 June 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we kill him?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Much better idea, Aaron!

kate (kate), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, what if he sues US? Yes, yes, we had the name before he did, but dumber things have happened in the court of law.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why killing him is a far better idea.

kate (kate), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Then the long-awaited name change to "I Wonder About Music Sometimes" can finally go through!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"making music much easier to get, in terms of listening, downloading, and purchasing. It's a simple idea that no one has really done before."

would it be a revolutionary 20 meg web connection with unlimited mp3 newsgroups access ?

i don't know much about UK copyright law, but if it were the US, y'all might indeed have grounds to stop him. you don't necessarily have to register anything to have a copyright or a trademark -- and this would be a trademark case -- you just have to be able to prove that you've been using the name in a market or markets where the new, competing usage might cause confusion. it helps a lot to have registered the mark. but it's not an absolute requirement.

though, personally, i think "i wonder about music sometimes" is a much better name.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever, this is going to attract A LOT of random googlers.

mei (mei), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Well in that case Gamble and Huff are entitled to sue us. 1976, I think the O'Jays original came out?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but we are much harder to kill. Simon Fuller is just one person; we are hydra-headed!

kate (kate), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

But we do need to start trademarking ILMisms : "ILX", "grebt", "POO", "POX", "bbut", "Lord Custos [X]" etc.

And surely we can now patent the business models of "Taking Sides [X] vs [Y]", "[X] C/D" and "Cover Connections"

phil jones (interstar), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

But we do need to start trademarking ILMisms : "ILX", "grebt", "POO", "POX", "bbut", "Lord Custos [X]" etc.
begin legal boilerplate here

"Lord Custos", "CustosCorp Unlimited" and the phrase "Bow Down Before My August Majesty, thou snivelling Maggots" are all the exclusive property of Custoscorp Transglobal Megalocorp and its subsidiaries: Custoscare, Custotronics, Customatic Heavy Industries and Custos Bait and Tackle. The specific names are copyright protected by domestic and international law. The contents of his conciousness may not be may be reproduced in whole or in part, in any form or by any means whatsoever, without prior written permission. This includes but is not limited to copyright, patent, trademark, or trade secret information held by CustosCorp Transglobal Megaocorp. Any use of this name in a manner different from the Terms of Use is expressly prohibited by the "special contract" v3.0, page 139, clause Deu 5:11.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we should all lobby Fuller for internships, and then subversively make his shitty little TV show into circular discussions about who you'd eat first if you were in some post-MTV Awards Lifeboat with Dave Matthews, Stephen Malkmus, and TatU.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

can we trademark calum?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Who you'd eat out first

Calz Bot, Monday, 23 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

And then the salient people in TV land could call a 1-900 number and pick who they'd like to see eaten (up or out, whatev), and then because UK/USA (wherever this show would air) is a democracy, ruled by the will of the people (as opposed to the Artist Formerly Known as Iraq) the star the people vote WOULD THEN BE EATEN. That would probably have to happen on Pay-Per-View though.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i want to trademark jel and his drawings before the mogul comes and starts selling them.

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The beeb has an 'I love music' website too, scarily it's in the cult section.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys (I hesitate to say we, being a lurker who's occasional posts generally contain errors so glaring as to attract pity rather than scorn) are cult! In the small-but-dedicated-following-who-find-greater-meaning-in-the-cultural-artefact sense... if there is such a sense.. (ok I'm stoned again)

Look, ILM owns and if there's a register for the killing party put my name on it please.

Zora (Zora), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"making music much easier to get, in terms of listening, downloading, and purchasing. It's a simple idea that no one has really done before."

Oh my god he's found aay to record music directly onto Tazos. We're done for.
